I did not ride as a child. Got on my first horse at 21 i have not read any books by training experts as in MR, syliva lock, monty roberts. Maxwell etc i have only seen one demo and that was default.
Chanter was a rescue. Ginger an ex race horse everything i have done with them or taught them it has all been through gut instinct.
I have made mistakes and been kicked, ditched for my effects but I do worry about the beasts i have created. But more so when i read things on here about how you all train and the methods used.
I don't give my boys cues for things. If i am walking in and out to my field and i decide to let the boys eat i just walk them to the edge and let them.
When i ride i don't think about softing my seat weight in my seat bones etc etc.
Everything i do with them is based on the moment and my reaction is based their action. For example i plan to jump one night i get on and he is great i jump eight fences and get off. Then a couple of nights later jump again he is amazing we jump twenty fences. If i think one night he is being a shit bag i will battle it through. But if i think there is a pain issue i jump off and call the right person to deal with it. If out hacking something. Spooks him i just just laugh but if something scares him i pat and say nice things but if he plants and i think he is being a knob i deal with it in a firm no nonsense way.
I don't over think my handling of them or my training when i have had an issue i just go with my gut to solve it. Like i said to some my horses may seem bad mannered rude and badly schooled and therefore i must seem a bad owner.
