so this may sound terrible in one way but what is the cheapest and most effective way to cubby up a horse.
Since moving house and moving from 100% DIY to full livery , my horses (3) have lost weight and I'm struggling to get it back on.
I can't always control the amount my horses get, but luckily my two mares are living together in an open stable so I double up their portion daily .
My gelding is living in a herd of 10 horses and is somewhat in the lower half of the pecking order and strongly believes in running around and sunbathing while The others eat Which is totally ridiculous because he doesn't get much to eat.grass is very limited and they are on super stricken grazing so it lasts longer, but in my Opinion they should still get hay before the go out on the grass because the grass portion is too little gor the amount of horses....
I have arranged for a month that he gets separated into a box for feeds. So he's getting more hay and I feed him daily 1kg of sugerbeet, some mineral supplement and oil.linseed.
You can see he's gained more weight.
He still needs more, just I have no clue on how long to continue feeding him daily with sugarbeet.
Anyone got a better suggestion ?
I have heard Dodson and horrels conditioning mix is good. But one 20kg sack would last me almost 7days...
Which will be expensive in the long run as daily food...
Up until now I have never needed to really feed extra food other than grass, hay and straw and depending on the workload some oats. They just got mineral cubes daily. Blood tests were super.
Blood tests are now not so good since we have moved and it's costing me a fortune in extra food ....
