I have always used haynets with horses, though I am slowly starting to not like te fact that its not healthy for sox, Though if I throw it on the floor he tramples it all in his bed! And he is a messy thing anyway! Though I like the fact that the net keeps him busy. I have being looking into haybars rather then feeding from the floor. He has it adlib anyway so that's not a problem though I want him to be kept busy almost when he is in his stable. Along with that the box is... 13 x10 or 11 I believe so aware that his stable isn't huge. I know at the vets they use the hayracks... I just want something that wont cover his bed, keep him busy and be healthy.. is that so hard lol.

Hay balls?
So hay in a net, but fasten the end and thread the string inside so it forms a ball then just throw in the stable.

Haybars are good as they keep they hay all in one place. I use haynets, just because it slows Ben down as he would scoff his hay in 5 seconds flat if I left it on the floor.

I have a hay bar now for Kia and I prefer it as I shake out the hay before putting it in the bag then transporting it to the haybar, so most of the initial dust is already dislodged. I always have seeds etc falling out of the bottom of it which is the point of it. My dad made mine for me, it's made of wood and lend with rubber, so it cost me nothing as it was all left over materials from a job :)

Haynets and hay racks and eating from the floor all allows dust and seeds to get in the horses face, horses shake the hay as they pull it out regardless, unless I need to control intake or I have a horse that is too messy I will be using my haybar from now on, so much easier :)

we have haybars and they are brilliant - however we have had to use the double nets for Charlie for his box rest - he had to be strictly limited on quantity and it had to be soaked - if we had put it in the haybar it would have gone far quicker and we had to slow him down, you can buy eliminets fittings for haybar feeders we are thinking of investing inone to try for him this winter.

I use half a blue barrel with holes drilled in bottom so excess water from soaking hay can run out and give small quantities over day.
