Hi guys -
I know this is a silly question, and it does come with experience of course, but is there any way that you guys know of to help learn how much haylage and/or hay is appropriate?
I have just started doing 1 loan day a week and the owner is not the most particular (which I find hard I like to be told exactly how to do things!) I do have help and girls that I can ask at the yard but how do you decide how much haylage or hay is too much? My loan horse is a 16 YO 16.2HH TB ex racer and is v skinny, he has 2 hard feeds a day which i have been told is "just grass in different forms" basically, and he has a large net of haylage for his night net (they are in overnight) which I have to make up on a Sunday. The girls said that he has 1.5/2 sections of haylage.....does that sound about right? I know that people say its easier to do haynets on weight sometimes but I find it hard to know what is right, I don't to underfeed or waste haylage by putting too much in - if that's even possible...
I'm quite paranoid about feeding so any techniques that would soothe this I would appreciate - apart from asking the girls to check over and over and over again!
Any advice appreciated!
