 Took my horse to the sand school this morning to burn off some steam. I let him run around first then lunged him. As he his not clipped he got more sweaty then usual, we were enjoying ourselves too much!

My dilemma is if he is still damp when I go to put him to bed tonight should I put a rug on him? I would hate to think he will get cold.

i would put a cooler rug on with some hay along the back to allow air flow. that way he should dry well but not get too cold.

Thatch him! Use plenty of straw over his back and then put the usual rug on. The straw traps a layer of air, increases the warmth and lets the air circulate for speedy drying. By morning most of it will have dropped out!

Or, raid someones linen cupboard for an old wool blanket & use this as a sweat sheet. Pure wool is about the best 'wicking' fabric there is (thats what those expensive striped Whitney blankets are made of.) Secure it with a sursingle till the horse dries then remove it.
