Working at the lifeboats we often hear about, and see the odd photo, of how lifeboats used to be launched and recovered by horses - sometimes up to 8 or 10 at once.

I've struggled to find much about it but have found these on google. I'm sure there is more info here at work in our Heritage Dept, I might ask if they have anything as I would be interested to learn more.

If you want to read a bit about it or at least see from pretty cool photos I found these websites - can you imagine doing this with any of our lot?!

Amazing really - as you say - can't imagine doing that with mine!! (Maybe Chloe cos she is placid and steady!!)
It always makes me think about how did horses behave - wonder if they ever had the same issues as we do today?

Also cos I am reading a histilorical novel containing lots of horses - I wondered how people coped who were not very good riders?! Lets face it - you would have no choice back then but to get on with it!!
