Itchy horse and Garlic flav chaf

Ive been reading many posts about itchy horses and people not giving garlic.

mine has an itchy mane and tail and he has a handful of garlic flav chaff every evening.

Do you think i should stop ? or do you think theres not enough to make any difference.

Depends which has been present the longest - if the chaff has been fed and then he's got itchy since being on it then yes, it could be making it worse. If he was itchy before being fed the garlicky stuff then it is unlikely that the garlic is causing the itchiness.


You can try changing the chaff and seeing if it gets better, but don't expect an immediate change - could take upt o 4 weeks or so...

I changed my brand of garlic recently & 2 horses started to itch. Changed back to previous brand & no itching!
