I was rather embarrassed at work this week when my vets faxed through 4pages - tiny text - of jerrys medical records for an insurance claim.
Last Saturday he came up lame whilst hacking (in trot uphill) but was fine back at a walk. it felt like it was through his right shoulder.
Got home and put him in his box, took saddle off and took him straight back out to trot up - he couldnt walk. it was almost like he'd tied up but he hadnt - it became obvious it was his left hoof as he kept resting it.
Got the vet out that night who did a hoof test and confirmed a bruised heel - possible slow abcess. he seemed sound on the tuesday but not 100% (i hacked him that night). on thursday i brought him in and he was lame so kept him in and got the vet out on Friday. Vet wasnt happy at his slow progress and asked for him to be taken into get xrays and nerve blocks.
I poulticed his hoof but nothings come out - i got quite excited tonight as i thought something has but was told it was just a smelly frog
YO's didnt see the need to take him in but after seeing him today they agreed he needed to go in. we're not long in from checking on him and he's terribley lame - quite bad considering he's been on bute for a week. i poulticed it again so unless something bursts out overnight he'll be going on a little day trip!
