When ever I try to halt or slow down a horse, I end up leaning forward, and sometimes almost come out of the saddle. Whenever I do that, the horse thinks that I'm trying to make him go faster ( I don't blame him), but I'm not. How can I break this nasty habbit before if becomes a real problem???:(

In the past, I tended to lean forward in the halt. My instructor was relentless in reminding me every time I did this and got at me to keep my shoulders and my back straight. Practice helped for me as I am nearly rid of this habit. She also encourages me not to lose contact with the lower leg when I halt, which is another thing I used to do - for some reason I would almost take the leg right off the horse.

For me, constant reminders were what it took to sort this out.
