I just wondered, if I was to show a Clydesdale in a local show (not a special heavy horse one) do I just make him look pretty or do him in Clydey tack?

Just:rolleyes: wondered.....

TBH I found that there weren't many classes at local level for my clydie girl, maybe tack and turnout?? Although I wouldn't worry too much about specialised tack or turnout.

Lady who bought my clydie recently took her to a local show and entered in T&T came fifth I think, although I don't know how much effort she made with ehr turnout obviously. She found the only other class remotely suitable was the cob class, although obviously she isn't a cob and didn't place but organisers felt it was only other appropriate class for her.

Really need to go to higher level shows to get classes that are suitable for heavies.

Ridden Clydesdales at county level are generally turned out as normal horses, not in 'heavy' gear, though I spotted some shaved docks at the RHS ridden Clydesdale class, because the same horses were doing the heavy horse classes later in the day! Some are pulled and plaited, others have longer manes loose. There are probably pics avaialble on line somewhere (possibly even on here?).

I have seen a small clydesdale turrned out and shown as a heavyweight hunter - it didn't look too out of place, but wan't a very typey clydesdale - I had to ask, as I thought it was part bred.

I have also seen ridden clydesdales in riding club horse classes locally - not sure that they could be considered suitable for all riding club activities though?
