For anyone who remembers my diary about my hairy little project pony - wonder Dave I had some really lovely news today. For those that don't he was a stout little native type, about 13hh and almost as wide as he was long. Full of character and given to being a bit whizzy and shall we say, independently minded! :giggle: My job was to school him over last summer to encourage calmness and paying a bit more attention to his pilot!
He was sold a couple of months ago to a young local lad. His family were experience pony owners as they bred and showed Shetlands. YM and I worried about Dave would settle (softies that we are!) Last week I popped into the tack room to be faced with a lovely selected of photos of the great hairy one and his new master. Mum had taken the opportunity of placing him at a local livery yard for the summer where there were more facilities for the youngster to enjoy. We needn't have worried about the Davemeister! There were pictures of a fat and contented pony in the paddock, under saddle in a very smart stable block, jumping the world's tiniest cross pole in the grass jump paddock, jumping the world's second tiniest cross pole in the school. Both of them couldn't have looked happier - it was just wonderful.
Then today even better news. They only went and took him to Malham Show!http://www.malhamdale.com/showindex He was entered in the Novelty classes (lad is about 10 -11yo?). This comprised a series of classes (Bonny pony/best 6 legs/shiniest coat, best mane & tail/cutest eyes and ears/roundst bum/best rider/fancy dress.
The first & second from each class went into the Championship Novelty.
And guess who was Champion??? Only the fabulous DAVE!!!!:bounce:
I may be a sad old sack, but I almost cried with happiness when I heard how much fun they were having. AND I actually feel I played a little part in it, having made as sure as I could he was ready to a new home with good ridden behaviour.
They are also planning to take him here very soon: http://www.cravencountryride.co.uk/
SO if any of you fellow NW folks are tackling the XC and a hairy midget with short legs gallops past like a speeding bullet it'll be him and young J.
Oh - and as a final footnote he's not called Dave any more - he's been re-christened. He's now DEEJAY. Any why not?
