Hi. Does anyone know about a law that says trailer tyres must be replace when they become 5 years old even if the tyres' conditions are still within legal limits? My servicing guy told me this last year but I can't find anything about it on gov.uk
I would question your servicing guy and ask him for the source of his information. Tyres can be sold as new up to 5 years after manufacture, so going by what he says you could have brand new tyres fitted that became illegal the next day.
Ive got a feeling all tyres are now date stamped when they are manufactured.
Didnt know about the new ruling but do now. I would think 10 years not 5 years.
Tyres do persish quickly if they are stationary in a yard and vehicle is not used often.
Tyres have been date stamped for ever, you just had to know how to read it. I’d go back to the garage and ask for the reference, if you get it please share here as I probably means I need 5 new tyres
