Minnie

I am just so so pleased for you that Minnie is going to be OK.

You have been the best owner for her, and huff or not, I am sure she really really appreciates you.

I hope you have lots and lots of happy years together - and she is just such a beautiful girl.

I just got back from Europe where I attended my brother's wedding, spent time with family and friends and met up with a business partner.
So riding wise I am just now getting back to it.

I thought it was a good time to post a hoof update though.

Here's October 2013 right after taking the shoe off:

Here's November 2013 (during the time she wore the shoe her heel had come so far forward. In October it was now a bit more normal and further back)

Here it is today (sorry a bit dirty :/) beginning of April 2014:

I think there is definite imrpovement. Heel is pretty normal now. Toe is less forward/long/etc.
But there is a MASSIVE amount of horn thickness at the toe.
I am hoping it was just Minnie's body's response to healing that large hollow area at the tow ... growing extra horn to keep things together.

I don't know if it will ever become normal (neither does the vet) but with a lot of rasping and rolling that huge toe she appears to be pain free and moving well.
Time will tell I guess.

From today (beginning of June). The wavy bumpy stuff has almost grown out. On the underside there is still extra thickness at the toe and something where the tumor used to be. I am not super worried right now... Just waiting to see what grows

I am nowhere near a hoof expert and struggle with what is supposed to be good and healthy and what is not. But this new piccy is such a vast improvement even to my ill informed eye. Is she sound now?

Oh she has a HOOF!

We haven't heard from you for so long, how wonderful to see such an improvement. Fantastic! Please may we have a picture of all of Minnie too????

Contrasna ...even through all of this **** she actually has stayed sound the whole time. She was sore for the first couple of weeks after surgery but after that through it all she always stayed sound -even when the hoof wall separate from the hoof etc.

What I love about your pictures of Minne (apart from how beautiful she is of course) is that she is always turning towards you or walking briskly towards you with that perky, affectionate look on her face!

She is just the most stunning mare ever. We need an In Love smiley!

Hello Karen, was wondering about you and the lovely Minnie just yesterday. So pleased things are looking so much better. We don't see enough of your beautiful girl.

You are very perceptive Jane! That's really the thing I love best about Minnie and what makes her so special to me. It's such a joy to even just be with her because she is such an intelligent, interested, warm creature. I feel like she truly wants to be with me and learn and spend time.
I just feel this love for her even when I just see her.
Have you ever read Mark Rashid? I forgot what book it was where he talks about the difference between a soft horse and a light horse - that lightness can be trained but softness comes from the inside, etc. I feel like Minnie is my soft horse.

probably the only time in my life where I managed to get that feeling mutually. lol
Starting September I'll be living on my own (with kids and horses of course)

Oh, I am sorry to hear that, but based on my current experience I can see that it could easily be the best option. As long as you keep the horses! Oh - and the kids...

Beautiful, beautiful girl she is. Sorry to hear that things haven't gone well personally, but am sure they will improve.

And that hoof just looks so much better - although I am no hoof expert - but it looks proper now.

Thanks!

My brief dating experience (been seeing each other for about half a year now) has ended. I am kind of sad, relieved ... and a little bit wiser. lol

On the plus side though: my court date is set for October 20th to finalize my divorce and after a mandatory waiting period of 30 days I can close on the house/property November 20th (unless something unforeseen happens to my mortgage application)

My hay man called mid September just like he said he would and is ready to deliver the next load October 7th -just like I want him to! So I really may not need a man or a truck.

The horses are doing well although it is so scorching hot here during the summer that those couple of months are our no ride time.

It's great to hear from you.

Live and learn on the dating front, false starts are pretty much inevitable!

Glad the horses are well though. How is Minnie's foot?
