Mystique had a lot of health problems with her legs, she originally came from Poland where she had been backed as a 2 year old and show jumped heavily as a 3 year old,she was coming up 5 when I got her and had been confined to a stable with no work or turnout for 6 months as the owner was scared of her.I knew there would be issues down the line I went in with my eyes open but we all thought we would have longer with her,I had had her just over a year when things started to come out so to speak, she had tests and xrays and all sorts of injections into joints physio etc and was happy and comfortable as a retired girl at 7,she was the most lovely girl and was as everyone described her more of an over grown dig than a horse,I she was comfortable and sound for lots of walks in hand and we did this and were inseparable.I went one day to get her in and she was lame, she had managed to do check ligament in both front legs, she did not box rest and the 2 first week's we tried she damaged them more even with sedation,it was discussed with my vet what we could do and the heart breaking decision was made that she would be pts as all of the other issues ment prognosis was not good and her quality of life was my main concern I wanted her to be a horse and be happy.she was pumped with Bute and enjoyed a month happy as a pig in muck eating, sleeping and pain free in the field with her best friend little Smokey, they played and generally had a good time.she would come in for a few hours during the day and eat and sleep some more i was given the choice of when and said mystique would let me know, she came in one day and the bright spark had gone from her eye,she looked tired and i knew it was time.hardest decision of my life but the right thing for her I would not allow her to suffer.she had given me o much and I owed it to her to do the right thing.
