Hello!! Not sure who here will remember me!! I used to be here many years ago when I had my old horse Mickey and then Paddy! I stopped using forums but started using again recently.
To cut a long story short, I sold Paddy in April/May due to a lack of confidence in myself and him, he was too reactive to my nerves and it was a downwards spiral and a viscous circle we had been going around in for about 18 months.
I viewed 10 horses and ended up buying a 14.1 (just under) traditional cob mare, who is now almost 8 yrs old. Supposedly a bombproof, safe hack alone and in company, turns out she is a rearer.
We have been doing LOTS of in hand work, long reining and trust building with her and it seems to be working! Hacking in company she is 100%, I cannot fault her! But solo hacking is a different ball game! We had out first solo hack for 4 months 2 weeks ago, only 10 minutes and on a lead line and she was FOOT PERFECT!!
Considering a week after I got her she reared bolt upright twice in the road and threw me off and I said I would never hack her again, this is progress! She didn't do it with just me either, she did it with a friend of mine at the time too who was fairly confident so it wasn't my lack of confidence that caused it, it was a lack of education, lack of confidence on her part and I think being allowed to get away with it previously.
She is doing tonnes better these days and I am pleased we persevered, despite several people suggesting I sell her as she was dangerous!!
So, meet Mollie!!!
