Well my once gorgeous wee fat pudding is now a gorgeous lean, toned, muscular fitness machine :) Well, ok, maybe I exaggerate slightly  But after trying for MONTHS to get her to lose weight, I am finally seeing results. She has finally lost some weight - she now only has one bum instead of two  and she has lost so much on her belly that I'm going to have to buy her a new girth.

So it IS possible for greedy good-doers to lose weight after all!

Well this is a 'before' pic....Cindy doing what she loves best, eating

I'll have to try to get some 'after' pics so I don't embarrass the poor pet, putting up pics of her 2 bums for everyone to laugh at

Well, she certainly looks....erm...fuller! Those ISH's cant half eat, Ellie was like a giant barrel last summer.
Well done you for doing something about it :)

I'm so glad you posted that..

The least horse I'm looking at is just like your mare. He'd been a pasture ornament for a year and his owner remarked "My god you're fat as a pregnant broodmare" (It's a gelding by the way)

two bums or not that's a pretty girl you have there. heheheh Bet she's a real looker now then.

:D

Kate - I like that term - 'fuller' - much kinder than just saying she's fat :D And yes, you are right about ISH types! The ID genes definitely come out in Cindy's chunky body shape - she has the fine TB type head, but very definitely ID neck and body!

Lora - thanks for the nice comments. I think she is the most gorgeous horse in the world, but then I suppose I may be a bit biased!

It really isn't easy to get the weight off a good-doer though - I'm sure all of you out there with porky horses will agree. I've been trying to get Cindy to lose weight for ages. For the last year or so, I've given her very little hard feed - just a couple of handfuls of Happy Hoof with a vitamin and mineral supplement and some carrots. And I think she gets a reasonable amount of exercise, bearing in mind she is 22 and I'm not trying to get her 'competition fit'! I would usually ride her 5 or 6 times a week - probably only for 1/2 an hour during the week, but could be 1 1/2 to 2 hours at the weekend. But this was having no effect on her weight at all....

I think the thing that did it was trying to work her a bit harder during our riding sessions, and also cutting down her evening haylage - using 2 small haynets, with small holes, one inside the other.

Whether I can keep the weight off is another matter, but I'll certainly try. My aim is to keep her as fit and healthy as possible for as long as possible :)
