i've been looking back at photos of B over the years to compare his muscle tone etc. He was 25 when I bought him (advertised as 19!) and is now 35. I think he does brilliantly, some days he looks older than others, depending on the weather he can look tucked up and a bit poor (despite being carefully rugged!) he always looks nice and round first thing in the morning when I change his rugs! Sometimes I think he'd be happy with a couple hours turn out a day, especially in Winter (Which I would happily do for him but that pesky think 'work' gets in the way!)

He has cushings, liver damage, a lypoma, is partially sighted and has no teeth to speak off (they few that he does have are totally flat, offering no grinding and his front teeth are like little fangs!)

I feed him fast fibre (5 scoops), calm and condition (1 scoop), soaked grass nuts (1 scoop), Vitex 4 equids, equine answers 365, and have just started him on turmeric, black pepper and olive oil. And for treats he gets a bit of banana or ripe pear! He lives in at night all year round.

Piccies....

And last month (aged 35)

So pleased with how my little man is doing :)

So let's see everyone else's oldie and hear your care plans for them :)

Bless him he looks very well for a golden oldie:). I don't have a oldie although love them and think they are totally underrated!! Calm and condition is fab isn't it? My friend has a 26 year old she swears by veteran vitality for, made by A&P and same soak pellets as c&c but has Alfa a in also. He must look good as he's always placed in veteran classes. x

Oh wow what a difference in the photo's he is looking so well:)
Mine isn't unlike yours he is almost 11hh and is 32 years old with cushings and arthritis, he had to get teeth out when he first came to me but now he can eat hay, He gets turned out everyday and brought in at night, when in he has adlib hay and a bucket feed with 3 handfuls of fast fibre soaked with 2 handfuls of hifi molasses free chaff, flax oil, magic, salt and pink powder all added in. He also gets 2 pergolide a day for his cushings.
This was took during the summer, in all my most recent pics of him he has his rug on

and this was when i first got him to give him a reitrement home, he wasn't diagnosed for cushings yet.

@joellie he's lovely.

B shouldn't really get c&c as it's got too much protein in it but he'll eat any suppliments so long as it's in the c&c. He won't eat anything in the ff! If it wasn't for ff he would either be very poor or not here at all as it's the only feed that is suitable for both laminitics and those with liver disease., plus as it's soaked he can eat it safely and digest it all properly!

I keep on thinking I should email in a testimonial to Allen and page.

hope you don't mind me gate crashing your thread:oops: Just wanted to show the change in my boy "Mad" since I bought him from an RS. although now only 19 I think he's been through a lot in his life:( He fills my life with joy:) I've had him 3-4years, and he's now retired with navicular.

6months before the RS sold him to me (after I'd begged and begged for months!)

@orbvalley he looks awfully thin in the first photo but fab in the other pics:)

/QUOTE]

He was shockingly thin when I first met him. He was being bullied by his other 3 paddock mates who wouldn't let him eat nor drink:(
When I used to take him out of his paddock he never used to want to go back in:( He used to try to plant his feet but didn't really have the will nor strength to dig in. It used to break my heart every time I had to put him away. I used to sneak him extra rations of granules to try to help him (I used to take my own in with me to the RS:oops:,I had to sneak it to him though as the RS owner thought he would get fat otherwise:mad:)

He looks awful and just so sad in the first pic but in the second one he looks happy and full of life :)

A friend of mine has an ex RS horse, she has known him since he was 4 and managed to buy him when he was about 17, she had to retire him after a year due to tendon problems most likely caused by his life as a hard working RS horse. He is such a lovely gentle giant and so happy living a spoilt life with her now. :) I think he is early 20s now.

Aww. My sound of the day today was defiantly Peds screaming at me when I called him from the field gate and he then came cantering across after, mud splooshing everywhere! Most excited he's been to see me in a long time!
