Older horse with extreme reactions to fly bites

Skratch Plus by Global Herbs - I have to feed in a sandwich with marmite. Amazing stuff.

The immune system copes for so long, but over time, with exposure the coping reduces. For example they may cope with fly bites for years but an allergy to dust or a new crop grown locally and can just "break" the whole system so things that weren't a problem become a problem.
 
Thankyou pfp, I'll suggest it to the owner. He is just so miserable, he hates being in his stable and weaves and he cant go out even though she has bought him a snuggy hoods rug to prevent the bites.

Vet suggested cavalesse (sp?) which isnt doing anything and they've tried various creams etc.

What sort of rug does Silver have?
 
Cavalesse is best started pre season.

Silver has a snuggy hood on her face with a weatherbeeta summer sheet combo (gonna try shires ultra flector next summer) as they are rip stop and she is a rug wrecker in summer! Do you have any pics? Is it decinitley flies and not food or pollen etc? Has it been the whole of this summer or just suddenly now?
