I thought people might interested to know about a new requirement in the UK from 1st July 2009. As I understand it this is not retrospective, if the horse has a passport then it is unaffected unless it needs a new passport for some reason.

All horses issued with a new passport after 30th June 2009, must be microchipped.
Foals must be identified before 31st December of the year of its birth
or within six months of birth, whichever is later

See http://www.ihsgb.co.uk/Equine legislation FINAL June09 _5_.pdf for more details

Yup, and you should have seen the vets face when he was called out to draw 10 coloured youngsters for their passports .... :p

That must have been fun! You've reminded me that I need to get mine corrects, one of her feet is white and on the passport it is only white one side where in fact it is a sock! I imagine checking 10 coloured passports is a job and a half let alone drawing them.
