Hi all,
After a bit of a weep this afternoon, and a visit to see Quitus.. I have come to a decision I really didn't want to make. I CANNOT leve a 5 year old who NEEDS working for 8 weeks then expect to get back on after a serious back injury and be fine. I NEED to find a professional rider/trainer locally who can work with him and maybe suss out his issues/generally keep him ticking over and working.
It dawned on me today how BIG he is, at 17hh and filling out all the time he is a lot of horse, and any WE TOLD YOU NOT TO GET SUCH A BIG HORSE comments will result in a cyber slap and some mouthing off from me - I'm not in the mood for it.
Quitus is still by far my perfect horse. I adore him, and seeing him today was amazing. I've missed him so much. BUT I can't just pretend that mum lunging and long reining him for 8 weeks will keep him ticking over enough to then have cripple me get on him and expect a quiet schooling session.
I need a firm, confident but fair rider who will work with him at what he already does. I DON'T want someone who will have him jumping 3ft by the time their done, I want someone who can keep him going in his flatwork in W, T & C and get him using himself correctly and not rushing etc. I need someone who won't be scared of the fact that the last two times he's been in the school he 1. bolted three times and then 2. got me off, he doesn't do it out of naughtiness and malice he is a very genuine horse and ineducated.
I will also need recommendations on a local RS as my horsey friends have all recommended I ride a more dobbin horse once or twice before I get back on loony boy!
This is really important to me, I am desperate to get back on my boy - but I can't risk my back again and can't leave him this long out of work when he clearly has a lot to be sorted. Turning him away would be pointless as he was turned away until Dec '08 and has only been in work since then! He is 5 now and he has his difficult brain on.
Please no 'I Told You So' comments, I may only be 5ft2" but that has bu***r all to do with this!
Thanks in advance!
