riding another horse

hi - i have ridden another horse a few times - he belongs to my granddaughter - she is fine with him and can ride/jump/trot and canter... but i am a bit scared... working on that - went on a lunge line for the trot and did good. Had trouble getting him to stop at trot so i felt better on the line. When I'm nervous i go forward and he thinks that means go faster and don't stop.... I didn't canter (of course)
I am ok at the walk - slow and steady...

Ah that used to be my trick, whenever anxious crouch like a jockey and watch that horse go!

It's very sensible to be on the line if it gives you more confidence. And always great experience to ride other horses.

I used to be a very crouched rider as well. At the first sign of feeling insecure I used to lean forward and cling on to the reins. Of course these are the aids for gallop and I did lose control of several horses doing this. After over 35 years of riding I am now able to sit up and back on my own horse, but I fear if I rode another I would get back to my old ways.
