Not wanting to start another controversial gadgets post but I was wondering about running martingales and when you don't need them?
I was riding quite a young, green horse at my riding school a few weeks ago, who was great He wore a running martingale but in my (admittedly inexperienced) opinion he didn't seem like he needed one - if anything he was leaning on my hands rather than running around with his head in the air. Even when we were cantering in a group of several and jumping, he was easily controllable and I didn't feel as if he wanted to throw his head about.
Maybe it's just because I'm such a great rider not likely!
