Saddle Carrying Bags

I've recently moved to a new livery yard and have changed from keeping my tack in a tack room to keeping it at home.

I bought myself a Shires saddle carry bag to protect my saddle but so far I'm not getting on very well with it.

My saddle seems to barely fit and it's really difficult to zip up. I'm a bit concerned that if I keep forcing the zip I may even do damage to my saddle, which obviously is the last thing I want.

Has anyone here ever used these bags?

I was wondering if there is a "knack" to using them, which I don't seem to be getting  or is my girls saddle simply too big?

If so can anyone recommend any alternatives for transporting a wide GP saddle?

Also, has anyone ever heard of a saddle being damaged in this way?

Thanks for your patience, I know that's alot of questions :) x

I have got the Cottage Craft one, I picked it because it is very padded but it is a bit of a mission to get in. Having said that it is a wide 18" VSD in a dressage bag so not ideal. The Zip isnt really in a place that it would damage it biut that might be because it is quite padded.

If yours is this style

As the two sides of the saddle bag are not connected so the width of the saddle shouldnt make any difference - hope that makes sense!:D I cant find a picture showing the saddle from the front or back but you would be able to see straight through the middle!

Other than that - put lots of blankets in you car to protect the underneath and get a fleece cover to go over your saddle. You could get one of those plastic things you carry them on to sit it on if you have room in your car?

Due to the expense of my new saddle that will be arriving in the next week, I'm on the hunt for a saddle carry bag that I can use to carry it the 5 minute walk to the yard from my house.I haven't heard many good things about the bags and the ease of getting saddles in and out of them??

I like the look of this one though it's bloomin expensive..!

Yes, that is the type that I bought. May well be better off with a type where the two sides are not connected.

Think I'll ask around the yard and see if anyone has one that I could try out before I part with any more cash ;)

Sooo expensive. As you say though, saddles are expensive so could still be money well spent.

Has anyone used one of these?

If its just for transporting it in your car, it might be cheaper and easier to ditch the bag! I just stick my saddles in the boot with a fleece cover to protect the surface, they're fine :)
