any help would be great

I would get a physio or chiro to come take a look at your horse.Vets often don't pick up on back problems, especially muscular ones.I would also get a saddler out to check your saddle. It could be pinching somewhere. From what you are describing it sound like a horse who is napping pretty severely to avoid work. What does the rider do when she bucks or runs backwards? if they are getting off then it sounds like she has learnt to avoid work.

hi

went she walks backwards i just try kick her on and as a last resort i use the crop. i never get of i just push and push until she at least goes around the padock twice. i cant even get her to do anything at the min i dont no whats wrong with her. i have even tried hacking her on feilds which she ustu love and she wont even go in the feild and when i get her in she just tries to turn around and come back out. i feel like its a losing battle im at a loss with her id never give up on her just dont know what to do. im gunna read up on that link and ride agen tommorow and see if i can get her to do something. i will get saddle checked i have tried riding bareback and shes still naughty.

thanks just feeling a bit lost with her she never used to be like this its like i have failed her somehow.

xx

It does sound like she's in pain. She may have bruised or pulled her back out in the field, as suggested the first place would be a back person.

think id possibley look at it 2 ways..

pain

or trying her luck

have u tried some one else riding her?? she if she does it with them?

other thought is something has scared her in the field and she doesn't want to go round it. Try going the opposite way and see if any difference.

Does sound like pain if another rider who i'm guessing is lighter is ok on her. could also be hormonal. Teeth, back and tack my first place.

you don't mention the age but my old horse started rearing and going sideways and backwards. Turned out she had progressive arthritus and she was telling me she's had enough so i retired her. She died two weeks later of kidney failure and she didn't want me on her in case she fell, plus she was in pain.

Have you any friends that have worked with horses say an RI or someone with experience dealing with difficult horses that could take a look at her? Sometimes a fresh pair of eyes can spot something that has built up gradually, that you may not have noticed seeing her regularly.

I would also get specialists to look at her such as a back person and an EDT. Vets unless they have decided to specialise in these areas would not have the expertise to spot deeper problems.

Also what are her seasons like? I had a mare with hormone imbalances and whilst it was a pain it is easily managed once you know what it is. Might be worth getting her hormones looked at as she could be having troubles there.

Do you always ride her by herself? Is she the same when you ride with another horse? If you haven't tried that, it may be worth a shot. It's unlikely to be pain if she's fine in company. At least you'd have a place to start.

my cousin has just got a horse which does this and we had tried everything until she got the farrier out for his feet to b trimmed and he said that he is stiff in his bk ;egs which is causeing him to be like that through pain n discomfort when ** on his bk,he is a gem doing n e thing else with.

so shes now waiting for the vet to come out.
but since ** had ** horse a while already this obviously is a new thing but maybe she has slipped or twisted herself while in the field.

prob not much help but i do agree with the other replys i would say pain in the bk somewhere. so maybe leave the riding until ** had her checked:)

Getting off and leading your pony is not an admission of failure; it helps to give your horse confidence and encourage her to follow you, reinforcing your role as her leader. Be sympathetic and try tio understand where she is coming from. Ditto the others about having her physically checked out.
