Skin soothing/conditioning shampoo?

Can anyone recommend a really good skin soothing/conditioning shampoo? Preferably something pretty natural 🙂

Niko is still itchy but not as bad as he was since I took him off Alfa, I figured when bath time gets here I’d prefer to use a nice shampoo to help him out.
 
I use shapleys no 2 heavy oil after a bath using Johnson baby shampoo. There are a few ways you can use the oil to put moisture back into and sooth the skin and I find the baby shampoo nice and gentle.

I worry about putting oil on a horse living out, I don’t want to fry him 🤣
 
I've never had any issue using it for a few years now and Comets had it on while out. you don't cover them in neat oil and leave it, that I wouldn't risk 🤣

Whal oatmeal animal shampoo is apparently great, my friend who’s horse is literally allergic to everything (specialist vet tested) uses it to soothe her mares skin, it was recommended by her vet. I’ve no personal experience of it and I’ve no idea what’s in it though.

Tbh I haven’t tried it yet, I figured I’d try the conditioner mixed with water first as I had it, but it’s not quite cutting the mustard so I shall probably order some in the next few weeks.

Yes you do and there are I'm sure 3 different ways you can use it.I've done a heavy wash in it then you wash it off after a certain amount of time and I also dilute it is hot water to hot clothe after clipping. I'm not back at the yard till the morning but I'll try and remind on to take a photo of the instructions on the back in the morning for you 😊

I use Battles Animal Shampoo.
Its a medicated one. Suitable for horses, cattle and sheep.
Smell divine. Cleans up whites well too. Soaps up nicely.

I buy a 5 litre size which lasts me a couple of years. My boys actually got shampooed yesterday whilst it was warm. I find it helps moult out there winter coats as well.

Have you tried aloe vera? It’s always been my go-to for skin condition. It did wonders for Mouse’s poor sweet-itchy skin.

I used a rinse free one on poor Ramseys itchy skin - I think it was "Barrier" peppermint. So easy as one didn't have to rinse off. It was lovely and soothing.Screenshot_20210404-081302_Samsung Internet.jpg

Feedback for anyone interested, I ended up getting the Barrier Anti-Itch Soothing shampoo as that's what the tack shop had. It can also be used as a no rinse wash. It seems to work really well, definitely took the edge off the itching and left him silky soft :D

It's brilliant - Ramsey had awful skin issues in his old age, and hated being bathed. The no rinse was a godsend!
