I was just reading a thread `sitting trot friend or foe' and apart from making me laugh it inspired me to ask about specialist underwear for riding?? Does anyone use it? Is it worth the money? I've seen it in catalogues but can't decide...
Reason I ask is that I currently live in Cyprus and summer is coming again!! Last year I suffered all sorts of nasty rubs (at the waist from sweaty jods and alot lower... erhem). I seem to spend rather too much time sorting through my underwear drawer throwing pants over my shoulder as follows...
lacy shorts - nope, too painful
synthetic shorts - too hot
string - aaaaargh
boring cotton knickers - ok but still seem to get chafed on hacks out.
My young son has occasionally been known to ask "Mum why do I hear you scream when you get in the bath"
That's how bad it is.
It was 32 degrees C today and its only gonna get hotter
HELP
ps. I know a more expensive saddle would help but can't afford it.
Maybe a seat saver... hmmm.

Don't bother wasting money on padded riding knickers! I know from an interesting DIY experiment (that had my OH in stitches :D ) that they will not work ;)
A good seat saver is likely to be far more use. Most people on here seem to recommend the good quality ones like HM, but a few have said a good fleecy one works well. Try doing a search of the forum for "seatsaver" and see what comes back :)

i tried bicycle shorts, the padded ones, under my johds, they were quickly abandoned.
i'm saving for a HM seat saver for my uncomfy gp saddle, but i've got a really comfy dressage saddle that is just the comfiest saddle i've ever sat on-i didn't know such saddles existed, i've always been used to bum numb saddles

yeah, the seatsaver thing popped into my head as I was writing the thread and what you've said confirms it. Will have a look at prices, might start with a cheap one and then consider a HM.

There is NO WAY I am wearing anything that adds EXTRA padding to my already apple-shaped butt!!! :D :D :D

i have the sore butt syndrome, i use 2 seatsavers on one of my saddles (a gel and a hm one) and on the fhoenix saddle im trialing (memory foam saddle) im using my hm seatsaver on it aswell.
im very tempted to get some padded bum cycle shorts aswell, might steal them off my ex when he gets back from iraq.

My mate buys a cheap seat saver and then pads it out with foam - she's a bit of a whizz with sewing machine... Mind you she's quite an eccentric person and buys those black and white seatsavers that look like furry dead seals. Maybe I'll buy a more subtle one and ask her to give a bit of extra comfort.
ps. My hubby was in Iraq but last year Tasha - not doing anything heroic though, just playing a bit of music and talking lots of rubbish on the radio. He's quite heroic with my horse though as they scare him half to death but he still feeds her apples over the fence.

Definitely an HM seatsaver. I believe the Comfy Rump pants are good but they're about 30 quid. Don't know about anybody else but that's nearly two weeks livery to me!!

Another vote for a HM seatsaver... you'll spend less on one of those than you will on a couple of pairs of padded pants... the seat saver will last longer and get more use as well as being more comfy! Sadly my old RI 'borrowed' my HM and I've never seen it since:(

I bought a pair of Equetech padded pants, quite apart from the fact that the padding made me feel (and look!) like I was wearing a large incontinence aid, they were cut all wrong for my 'hungry bum' shaped backside. Doesn't matter what pants I wear, my arse eats them... the only exception being M&S 95% cotton 5% elastane/lycra 'granny pants'!

Guess what I ride in?! Oh, boy I hope I never end up in casualty with that dishy american doctor cutting my Johds off... the shame of having 'floral print' (they were cheap in the sale, OK?!) granny pants under my Johds would kill me, if my injuries didn't!:D

Don't know if you guys have Wilkinsons Stores in your part(s) of the world, but they do great reinforced, long-legged, ladies undergarments. They hold everything in and up, and only cost £3. V. comfy under jods.
