so i rode today for the first time in 6 months. it was great got lifted on by my bf as with my knee cant get on by myself. did a short 30 min walking session bareback then tried to swing my leg over to get off and found i couldn't move my leg:eek: so was a bit stuck . sat there for 20 mins trying to figure out what to do finally had my ri come over with my bf and kind of lift and slide me off so this riding deal just wont work for me :(

If you are having serious problems riding related.... take up driving! Is immense fun and great for people like yourself with riding related problems :)

In the mean time I would do lots of warm up exercises before you ride and take time if you can to give your leg a good stretch every now and again whilst your mounted.

fjord lady no unfortunately have had 6 surgeries and it still is not right i have a pins in it to keep it together but thats the best they could do.

It's great that you managed to ride, stormy's mum. But I can't see that you need to give up: if you need help to get on, then why not have help to get off?

ya true now that i think of it just kind of embarrassing. i mean im 19 and i cant even mount by myself ri nearly killed herself trying to get me down and don't want to be a bother to anybody else

Poor you. I have got stuck on horses before and found it so embarrasing that I wanted to cry. In fact I did cry - and YO had to come and rescue a bawling 30 year old from her pony. :o
I think you need to get your head around the fact that you need help with mounting and dismounting at the moment - until you work out how you can manage by yourself. And there ARE ways to achieve this. I know a girl who trained her horse to lay down on command so she could dismount. There are also a few less drastic methods, like lifting your leg over the horse's head (your good leg if you can't get the other high enough)and sliding down, trying a saddle with small kneerolls and a low cantle,...
All these things require the help of someone else until you and your horse get the hang of it.
How about a mounting -practise session next time, where you get two helpers and experiment with different things. In my experience most people don't see it as a burden to be asked to help if they know in advance and you pick a convenient time.
don't give up yet. It's frustrating - but better than not riding at all, I think. good luck

ya i don't ride in a saddle because i have little to no bend in my knee. i might try a mount ramp but im afraid of the horse moving sideways before im fully on it takes me awhile to adjust. i have no feeling on either side of my knee all the way down my leg. will have to work on teaching the horse i ride patience.
