Thought I'd start a new diary for Harry and Comet and the Your Horse hack 1000 miles challange I'm doing. Lots has changed in my life in the last year so a fresh start here for a fresh start all round ?

On the 18th May I officially started tracking our hacking miles. Your Horse do a hack 1000miles challange with the aim to hack a 1000 miles in a year and there is a lovely friendly FB group and we all share our journey and beautiful hacks. It's a lovely non competitive incentive to get out hacking more.

I started getting Comet fit again before starting the challange but we have had a great start and he is feeling great ?

I've been using Equilab app on my phone to track our rides. I use the free version but you can pay to have extra features but I don't feel we need them. This is the sharable image but there are more details in the app. Speed, tempo, incline, rider calories burned etc

Yesterday I felt comet was looking well. He feels fit, has started to muscle up well and is generally enjoying life and I feel much better getting out and about more. He is definitely a great hacking pony and I have to pinch myself that I have the honour of calling him mine tbh ?

Harry wasnt too well with his cushings so has had to have a meds adjustment and will need another one to get things levelled out again but he is doing much better and enjoying life at the moment. He will always be my main man ?

I’ve been reading your posts on FB and I’m so happy that you are enjoying life right now, Comet looks fantastic and is a total credit to you, he’s a lucky boy to have you too you know.
As for your main man Harry, well he’s just as adorable as ever and I’m glad to see he’s picked up with the change in meds.
Onwards and upwards my lovely. ?

Thank you all. KR it means the world to me you saying that ?

@Pete's Mum are you doing the challange aswell? Have to say I love the group its such a friendly place ?

Had a great ride tonight with 2 great friends. Mix of roads and beach. Comet was for the most part a dream, we did have a couole of Welsh Dragon moments but he would not be Comet if we didn't ?

Comet sounds amazing and so does your hacking. I'm so pleased you're loving life together.

The hack 1000 miles sounds amazing too. I'd love to join in but it's just tempting fate too much ... Raf throws a sickie at the slightest thought of commitment lol.

PS Harry is gorgeous too ?

I just had to work out the mileage average. Its 2.7 miles per day. So just over 19 per week. In case anybody wants to try.

Even though i get out quite a bit im not currently up to that. Im probably managing between 12 and 15 a week currently. On a good week i might manage 19 miles, but not on current form.

Thanks @Bodshi :)

How is Raf doing? Well I hope x

Yes @chunky monkey its roughly 19 miles a week all year. I've clocked up around 90 miles since the 18th May but I know I won't get out as much over winter but we will see.

Thanks @Bodshi :)

How is Raf doing? Well I hope x

Thanks, he's looking and feeling very well at the moment. He does seem to get tired/maybe a little bit stiff easily if he does a lot though. We went out to a farm ride on Sunday and he was absolutely bouncing on the day, but wasn't quite his normal self in my lesson yesterday. Nothing to see, he just felt a bit unsupple. Not sure whether it's his Cushings, arthritis, or just an age thing, although 14 isn't old for an Arab. Maybe a combination.

@newforest and @Huggy he is Perlino. So he is bay underneath all the cream genes, cremello are chestnut under them. Perlino manes and tails are sometimes darker more orange/gold because the hair is black underneath :)

Had a busy time lately. Had some lovely hacks, we done a 15.1 miles ride last Tuesday and had a picnic half way round! Was brilliant. He is just such a happy soul ?

His weight is looking good and with the extra exercise I haven't had to put his muzzle on for the last 2 week's which is lovely.

He had the farrier on Friday so feet tidied up, I'm measuring him up for boots for his hinds aswell as we are doing alot more work now so I'm hoping the scoot boots size up well for them as i love them for his fronts.

I'm contemplating a new saddle for us both. Looking into western and possibly going back to treed. Talking with a lady who deals in the Deuber saddles and looking at the treeless Startrekk shorty western or the Quantum short and light western. We will see,I have some measurements and videos to get tomorrow :) 20200615_123125.jpg20200614_195346.jpg20200614_192814.jpg20200615_123109.jpg20200615_111824.jpg20200609_155806.jpg20200613_161335.jpg20200609_185911.jpg20200608_144724.jpg20200608_144216.jpg

So Harry not long ago had to have his meds adjusted. He had been stable on 20mg of vetoryl a day for nearly a year but started showing symptoms that his cortisol was being over supressed. Blood tests confirmed it so we stopped for 10 days then restarted at 10mg. This isn't uncommon with Vetoryl use over time. He was doing well but is now needing to go up again.Anyway you couldn't get 5mg Vetoryl in the UK but my vets have being able to import in specially as 10mg is proving to low a dose with synptoms starting to show again. so the 5mg will arrive at the end of the week and hopefully we can get him back on track again and the symptoms under control. We will retest bloods after 2 weeks of being on the 15mg.

I'm pleased as tonight he is chilled and relaxed, he has been restless the last few nights which is a symptom so it's nice to see him having a comfortable evening.

He loves his walks still and to play and is like a puppy then ?

So our hacking is going really well!! Comet is just an amazing little man and makes me feel like a child again. Cannot believe at nearly 35 I have all my confidence back and I absolutely love riding my pony, like I get excited and butterflies just to see him.

I have also made the most amazing friend at the yard and we have such a laugh and help eachother out with our boys and we just have fun with our ponies and I haven't had a person to share this with for years having being in the field on my own. I didn't think I'd missed it but I really have. Comet and Dale her pony are good pals and get on great together and they are both waterbabies!

Last night we went swimming on them and we jumped a wee log we found on the beach. That was two firsts for Comet and I ?

Harry is doing really well. He is like a puppy and his skin is getting back to normal colour. His energy levels are up, he is drinking less and not panting all the time or getting restless at night so I'm really happy ?
