I would say that depending on the horse that 10st would probs be a fair maximum for an introduction but balance is more important than weight so as long as whoever is on board is a quite tactful rider then that is the main priority
I would say around 10% of the horse's bodyweight, unless it is an older horse being backed (eg a broodmare coming into ridden work etc and not a youngster).
my friend who backed my welshie was about 10 stone BUT i'm considerably more than that and took over the ride a month later. agree, a balanced experienced rider rides lighter.
