Just wondering,

is there anyone who doesn't have insurance for their horses? Either way, if you do or don't why do you?

Only because, sox cribs, windsucks . so itsnt covered for things related to that. I sometimes wonder why I bother paying!

Me. I just keep money aside for unexpected expenses. Specialist horse insurance doesn't really exist in France anyway!

We have far too many to insure so just have 3rd Party. I hate to say but I feel we get better advice from our vets as they know we are not insured but can pay for effective treatment . I keep 0 percent credit cards with high limits for emergencies!

I've been wondering the same for a while, Jess is excluded for colic and cushings so by extension anything lami like, which doesn't leave a lot of horse covered. My premium is about 38 a month and I toy with the idea of just putting that into a savings account as an emergency fund, but I do worry that I won't have saved enough before I need it and my credit is awful so can't have credit cards as a back up :(

No I don't. June was excluded for anything to do with lami and her back legs from her hips.

Womble I don't insure either, I put money away and if it was anything serious like colic surgery I would make the decision to put him through it there and then, he wouldn't cope with the recovery

Exclusions don't cover external injury. So if your horses legs are excluded it tied to mean if they get kicked or caught on wire that they won't treat them.

Kias on injury only insurance now which will come to an end completely in the next two years as he will be over 25 and uninsurable. I have already started paying money into an acct so as by the time that ends I will have a pot with which to treat any problems. I'll take out Bhs gold at that point as well for third party.

I have third party for Chloe as its a requirement and term of her loan to me. Its not expensive.

I used to have insurance for Storm but she's too old now. Veteran policies won't touch her. And I agree with
eml - I think if vets know there is insurance they tend to try things more that are maybe not quite as guaranteed as other treatments. Thankfully J had all his early treatment on insurance as did madam. Now its just a case of management as nothing can turn back the clock.

Full insurance for Dolly - I doubt I could sleep at night without it. I have always had full insurance on all my horses since way back in the 70s. I wouldn't have been so concerned when I had a job, but now I am retired, one colic bill or bad accident could cause a serious blip in my finances. Plus I trust my vet 100 per cent not to suggest ridiculous and unnecessary expensive treatment if I am insured or not insured, he says it as it is.

I was with E&L and covered for just external injury and not illness, due to her age, but recently changed to their sister company and now we're insured for illness also. Up until she's 20. She's 17 in June. I pay less than £18 per month, £160 excess.
I have BHS gold insurance for myself.

BHS Gold Here - I don't insure him as he has his own account which the equivalent of insurance premiums go to each month.

I am at the moment with Dylan, he's covered till he is 25 with PetPlan but I'm also claiming for arthritis at the moment so I may have to have a think when the year is out if it's worth it. My plan was go until he was 25 and then set a credit card aside and pay monthly premiums into an account but I may end up doing that sooner when the exclusions come in in September.
