Bought Clare Balding children's book to give as present - The Race Horse who wouldnt Gallop.

Couldnt resist reading it cover to cover as soon as I got home. It is packed with horsey knowledge and a good quick read. Too highly unprobably about kids to be convincing.

Deciding to take time off from history and to read some lighter novels, I also indulged in The Mare by Mary Gaitskell.

A serious novel this about women and children, and a lovely read. You can read the reviews. I'ver not finished it yet. So please dont give away the end if you post here. But thought I would mention on NR that the horse side sounds so right. Think of an idealised blend of Parelli and Monty Roberts. Unusual in horse fiction.

I'm quite fond of easy reading horsey fiction from time to time. Takes me back to my childhood indulgence of such books.
