Well I entered a prelim dressage comp in September which was a bit of a disaster and we scored 58% which included a ONE for the 2nd canter work! That wasn't surprising - my dressage all summer was dreadful. Amber was good at jogging, trotting or bogging off. Walk and canter were more challenging! All the fast work and XC over the summer was great fun and did wonders for my jumping confidence but it made it even harder to keep a lid on her enthusiasm.

I have worked really, really hard on her rideability - especially in canter - and finally felt ready to enter another test. Could not find one IRL so I have done an interdressage walk/trot//canter test. They score pretty generously I think but I was still delighted with 72%. Currently in 3rd place.

There were 2 dogs lying on the track as we did our second canter. Those dogs are always running about the school when I ride and I was NOT going to move out of their way. Amber went past but kicked out towards them on the canter transition which was a shame. She was also a bit tense in anticipation of the 2nd canter, but the rest of the time she was relaxed and obedient. Love my lovely orange beastie.

I am also entered at the venue I got 58% at on the 29th December. I doubt I'll get anywhere near that score there, but am hoping for a marked improvement on last time...... can hardly be worse!

Had her almost a year now. It has flown by.

Erm, where's the video Mrs?
Well done both of you :)

Here if anyone is interested. Sorry about the sound effects - the clip on the site is muted thank goodness. (I swear at the dogs!!) And the poor picture quality.

She is so much calmer these days. Even in the howling wind.

Brilliant improvement, well done! I'll watch the vid once I'm home, thanks for sharing :)

Well done! I'd like to try interdressage but haven't got the self discipline to practice enough yet!

In 2017 I did my first-ever Interdressage.. well, actually it was my first dressage test of any sort. To my amazement, I came second in an Intro Walk and Trot. Then I did another.

As a long-term novice RS rider, I never imagined I'd be doing dressage tests at this stage of my horsey life, so am grateful to Interdressage for this opportunity. The judges went easy on me, with just the right balance of encouragement and criticism. I cringe when I watch my first two tests, but that's all part of the learning. Really fun, and good for developing a sense of oneself as an actual rider not just a wannabe. I'm looking forward to the next one in 2018.

Go for it @Calder
I intend to do one monthly through winter. She is a long way from the finished article but also a long way from the wibbly-wobbly weak giraffe she was in April!! It is nice to see progress. I can sometimes feel we aren't getting anywhere but then suddenly something changes and just these past few weeks it feels like she is using her hind end so much better in canter. She used to just flatten and run. If you asked her to collect at all she'd break to trot as she did not have the strength or balance to maintain canter without running on.
