Why is he doing this???

hello!

What is your body language saying to your horse whenyou approach him? Are you going straight up to him like a predator then stretching out your claws (hands) to attack him?

Try approaching him slowly from the side. If he looks worried like he is goint o walk off then stop for a moment, then approach again. Keep your shoulders lowered and slightly turned away from him. When you get to his shoulder, slowly move your arm to his shoulder, keeping your fingers folded up then gently stroke his shoulder. If he is happy with that then try to run your hand further up his neck. If he looks worried, go backa step, then try it again. It will take time and patience.

Good luck!

bye!

Problems with your horse

hello again!

Are you keeping your horse at home? It may be worth moving him to a local barn where you can get advice from more experienced people to help you with both horse psychology and how to tack up your horse (I saw your other post).

Are you having lessons on riding your horse? it is definitely worth doing that when you get a new horse, no matter how experienced you are.

Good luck with your new horse, I hope you can find someone local to you to help you with him.

bye!

why is he doing this?

You've only just got this horse!! He doesn't know you yet - spend lots of time with him - grooming, riding, talking to him.

Once he knows that you're his mum! and that you feed him, give him lots of love and attention, you will soon find that he will come up to you in the field, not turn away.

Take lots of time out to get to know him - it is well worth it!
