Hi,

My mares stable rug is filthy and in need of a good clean.

What do you think is the best way to clean indoor rugs?

Would it be ok to use the washing machine? Would a brush and a bucket of soapy water do the job or would I be better to pay for it to be cleaned as I do my outdoor rugs?

Thanks x

Washing machine for me - just remember to clean the filers before and after (i jammed the washing machine by washing 2 rugs in sucession without emptying the filter. my dad pulled the plug bit out to unjam it and flooded the kitchen. i wasnt popular.)

Did mine in the bath last night and it killed me! Hard to wring out too and now hanging in the garage!

I put mine in an old duvet cover & tie it closed with string. That way the metal bits can't damage the machine & big bits of hay & straw won't bung up the filter. If you line dry the rug any loose hay/straw/shavings bits should drop off. I have killed washing machines, but not by cleaning rugs ;)

I use the w/m for all ponies rugs and my big girls light weights and take heavy weight stable rug to laundrette, much less hassle!

i chuck mine in the machine, but then they are only 4'9" ! You can buy rug washer from most tack shops.
We have a rug laundry service in Cornwall. They collect, wash, reproof, deliver a new zealand for £8 - £12 which i think is a pretty good price.

i use a rug scrubbers service for all my rugs :) they come and pick them up take them wash dry reproof repair then drop them back all for £10 but if you have major repairs its more they also de hair fleeces:eek: and because i have 1 grey horse it is really work paying for that on show rugs

Bargain :D That sounds like a brilliant service for the money

TUT TUT
you should do what i do!!
hang them over the wall and pressure wash them!! its brill!!!

(or just shuv them in the W/Ms at uni student accomodation, leave the mess and do it at night when theres no one there!) :p not me, i saw some one, honest

 the rug washing service that i know of in my area is £9 to wash and £25 to reproof!!! and you have to drop it off and collect it! was thinking about pressure washing my turnout and taking my indoor ones to the laundrette.

If you dont want to risk your W/M try your local laundrette [if youve got one] thats how I do mine.

That's what I'm planning to do. A couple of us from the yard are going down to the local Launderette this weekend with a pile of stable rugs. They are big rugs 6'6" and a little big for my home machine.

We're hoping we don't get kicked out.:D
