Hi
Going to go and look at field shelters at the weekend but am i right in thinking you don't need planning permission for the mobile type of field shelters?
I'm getting 4 24x12 shelters but dont want to look an idiot buying them and them not being able to use them:rolleyes:
Thanx

Nope, well not as far as I know... aslong as no humans are living in it then it should be fine:)

When we were looking into buying a field we had asked about a shelter and they said it was fine!

i looked at the mobile shelters from saltire stables when i was trying to rent the field by my parents house. On the saltire website it says that because the shelters are mobile (on metal skids i think...) and are technically of no fixed location and require nothing like foundations then NO planning permission is not required. I'd double check with the council first though.

Yeh that was the same as mine:) aslong as it didnt have foundations we were ok;)

No you don't need planning unless its on wheels! lol, I've never seen field shelters on casters.........I have two "mobile" field shelters - and I live in one of the strictest council parts of the country - and I didn't need planning, provided it is explained that they are mobile. They were purchased from REdmire and are sold as mobile - and you can show pictures to the council - thus proving that they are mobile.

Yes, if you have a concrete base you need planning permission (I've been through that and have finally received it - yaye!!!!). There are other things you can do tho - I have two mobile shelters that look just like the "real thing" ie, they have doors on like stables, but I have fieldguard mats outside them where the horses stand. I won't pretend the mud isn't a problem tho - I'll be glad when I get my concrete base down!!!!

I had to prove my field shelter was mobile. My local council said that it had to be moveable by one person in under an hour. Please be careful with regards to planning it changes council to council and they made me get rid of mine

We didn't need permission for field shelters & not even for our block of 4 stables - so long as they weren't permanant buildings - our council's definition of this was wooden & not on concrete. Ths stables were built on compressed chalk & they were happy! shelters are dirct on the ground - not on skids but they were happy. As has already been said - depends very much on council though.

Thats really unfair. I don't know how I'd have coped until we got our "proper" planning permission through - its taken us a year - I'd have hated to have sent our pair back to a yard in the meantime. (They can't live out one is a softy tb type)

As far as I know you don't need permission as long as it is able to be moved (ie: on skids so can be pulled by a tractor etc and moved around)

Although I think it does vary depending what council you with so best to phone up and check first.

thanks all! have spoke to various companies and every one assured me i wouldnt need planning permission:rolleyes:As a precaution ill call the council tomorrow!

You know what our council are like! They prob wont tell you over the phone. they will send you complicated forms to fill in so what ytou are asking can be assessed and they will make a bit of £ out of you in the process... been there? bitter?? moi???:o:D

I think you don't if it's classed as a 'temporary' building; in other words if it doesn't have full blown in-the ground-jobby foundations. If it can be moved or dismantled, in most cases, you shouldn't need planning permisson. Most field shelter companies state if their shelters do or not; most say you don't :).

Oh god dont tell me that!:eek:local farmer told me not to even bother telling them as you cant see shelters from anywhere unless you come up to house and even then they arnt visable!we're surrounded by forrest fortunately and farmers dont give a rats a**e what you get up to!!:D

(My parents are still having council trouble for a new storage yard even after 2 years!!)
