Bum high at 7......will he grow out of it??

My boy is about to turn 7 & still very bum high, do you think he will grow out of it or is it there to stay??

I think you have to get used to a shadow from behind by 7 I would think its pretty much it....even for the slow growers. Maybe you could get stack heels for the front?

Lucy only filled out properly at about 8 - 9 (m/w cob type), so it does happen ...

Well I hope he uses his big rear to his advantage now(I plan to get him to go BSJA if I can sort my nerves out lol!)

Bum high at 7 usually means bum high for life. They can still be filling out at that age but it's rare to see them get any taller, which he'd have to do to end up level.

I have had a vet & a dentist say that he is bum high to me as we have been having a few problems with his back end(he has muscle damage there) & they said the fact that he is bum high may not be helping his problems.

If you're lucky he may have a final growth spurt this spring...

Are you 100% certain of his age?

He is definately no younger(well I hope not anyway!!) dentist told me he was 6 last year & had a different one out last week who told me he 6/7.
I bought him as an 8 year old supposidly.....but he was actually only 3 so Im hoping he isnt younger!!

Goose rumped is when the bum slides down at an angle away from the point of the croup.

It's a description of pelvic slope (Hip line) in the context of horse conformation basically.. The slope causes some connected muscle groups to become over developed and create (with the slope) a point on the top of the quarters which falls away to the tail.. When you stand side on to a goose rumped horse the rump slopes sharply away to the dock.. Goose rump does affect stride as it shortens it as the femur cannot swing within it's true trajectory..

I have seen a few horses in their teens who are "bum high"...and its stuck like that - no evening out at the withers - so im afraid its just poor conformation/muscle for them.
However, I do know a lady back in cornwall who had a lovely 6 year old Irish draught x....she was a little over 15.2hh, and had been since she was 5...then, as she was 7, near 8 years old, I remember this lady saying that this horse was "bum high" and she didnt approve, lol - she showed me, and I have to say, it did look bum high!...Well, the horse did even out, and she is now aroung 16.1hh...but you dont often see this....I know ID are supposed to be slow growers, but perhaps she got the age of her horse wrong too? I dunno...but I wouldnt be surprised if there were one or two "anomolies" out there who have had a late growth spurt!
