What Is A Mature Rider?

I joined New Reider because it was the only place I found where there were lots of other ADULT BEGINNERS.
So I have been posting in the mature riders section for that. (since I was 28 lol)

Karin

I don't know why I joined, I can't remember (perhaps I am a little too mature)

Sorry someone has hit me with the laughing gas.:giggle:

I re-joined this year (sorry off thread) to ask about what to wear etc for coloured cobs when showing, before I know it I am on the Sofa and in the Cafe:help:

There is no hope for me lol.

Its great though so hay ho

Ah but my inbuilt fear of getting hurt multiplied by several thousand when I had my daughter and realised that I really could afford to get hurt. Its different the older I get. The only other livery on my yard is about 8 years older than me (so in her mid 40's) and she said the same which is why she doesn't do x country or all the more risky things she used to in days gone by.

Like Karin - NR was and is a mine of info for people who learn to ride as adults - Years ago when the board was busier, those topics used to be in Mature section. Including hints for the increasingly decrepid. It can still be useful for that, even if lightly used these days. I wouldnt want to see it go.
And of course you will find countless threads asking for a definition of Mature. No one was ever barred, but it was a bit silly at one time to have it populated by teenagers! I came to NR when a guy reported on learning to ride aged 58.

Haha - another thing about getting covered in straw etc - I seem to "deposit" it everywhere I go - Mr T gets quite cross when he's hoovered up and everything is ship shape - he says I am like the character "Brown Jenkin" (taken from our fav horror book by Graham Masterton).

Like Karin and Skib I was originally attracted to NR because it catered for adult beginners. At that stage I really liked the mature section cos the board was mainly teenagers and I liked to hear from other people who 'really didn't want to fall off'. Despite being a bit older now I no longer use it much but I wouldn't like it to go as I do post there sometimes when I want to ask about 'riding with a frozen shoulder' and other 'eek I'm decrepid and falling apart' type stuff!

I used to post on the mature riders section years ago, but that was when the majority of forum members were much younger. I'm only 35 now so not exactly old. These days i don't post there very much at all.

Thanks Wally -definitely dont want to fall off.
As to being too dumb to know you are too old? That is what NR rescued me from. No one is too old here.

Love Wally's definition:bounce:
I have felt like a mature rider for the last 20 years since I was 30.
In New Zealand there used to be rings at show called geriatric rings for over 25's . Thankfully they are not called that anymore as it used to make me feel really old!!

Well I'm definitely one of the gracious ladies then - almost 66! I usually post in the mature section but I don't actually have a long experience of riding; I started learning for the first time in my life when I was 60. I also help out in the yard so know all about being covered in hay, poo and horsey slobber (from being "mugged" for Polos!). Although I don't actually feel any different to younger riders, I do have some issues with stiffness and mounting and dismounting etc. Not enough to ever stop me riding and being around horses though!
