Forward facing/offset stirrups

Having stirrup irons that mean you don't need to twist the leather seems like such a good idea to me, so why are these so rare?
 
Because riders are stick in the muds? I don't know. As I say, the only disadvantage is that they don't lie flat when you run them up. Other than that, sheer genius.
 
I've ordered some having trawled the internet, but it made me wonder if I was missing something obvious?

I know Wally loves her Icelandic ones and I've been thinking about swapping for ages.
 
My stirrups don't run up, I just drape over the top. You can also buy a keepesr of some sort to keep them together and tidy.
 
I'm so shallow that I gave up using "webbers" stirrup leathers because you can't run them up and I didn't like the fact that by just swinging each one over the seat, gradually my stirrup skirts were bending upwards....

When someone designs a stirrup iron that you can twist and lock into position for riding and then return to flat for storage, I'll be at the front of the queue!!!

I just use the loop that has my stirrup in it and hook that over the bar if that makes sense? They lie nice and flat then and you don't need to damage the skirts. I used to just take them off as I suppose you'd have to do with the off set eye ones.

I like Domane's idea best!!!

But off set does sound good, I suppose really, you don't particularly need to run them up for storage on the saddle horse, just for saddling up.
 
Oh, Domane, the MDC stirrups that Sbloom has, are just that - you can change the angle - and hey presto, you can run your stirrups up! - pricey though!!
 
I've got Bates "Webbers" & they run-up as there is an extra hole at the top. I use them with swan-neck stirrups which have a bigger tread & an extra bit of room at the side to adjust your foot. I find them really good & have helped my back enourously.
 
I bought the MDC stirrups about 2 months ago based on a friends recommendation.I found them much better than normal stirrups.

The main difference is that they face forwards. This makes getting on, finding a lost stirrup a lot easier. What I didn't expect, is that they also made a big difference to my balance in faster gaits. I think its because they are straight across my foot now, rather than at an angle.

I used to have a few pairs of these, some HM ones and a couple of pairs of Icelandic style ones. I liked them much more than 'standard' english leathers.
They seem easier to find now than they did a few years ago when I had them, I've come across some on ebay quite regularly now.
I used to just pull my stirrup forward of the flap and put them over the seat, or when using webbers moved the tbar to the top hole and ran them up and turned them so they sat flat, but I found as the hole is usually bigger they had a tendency to slip down.

While its good that you are posting inhs, all you are really doing is promoting your site, using the forum for free advertising.
I may actually want to read your reviews if you joined in, but this is the second post just about you and not about us.

Yes - I was a bit iffy about the intentions behind this and the other post - the link isn't even to the stirrups but riding hats! - Mike?

Ditto.

Funny but I never even received so much as an apology when what I wrote on this board in a seemingly normal thread was taken, word for word without my permission and posted on INHS' website and used to promote their business.
