The only time I’ve found Hank shivering was in persistent rain in summer, -17c sideways snow is fine though ? I am feeling a little bad that I didn’t even check to see if Jess was warm enough, though the rain had only been coming down for half an hour before I left at 7pm so I doubt she’d have been cold by then.
Ale didn't even just have the little bottom shiver going on he was full on shaking all over! Madness! But then he is on restricted grazing. Likewise ale isn't even bothered in wet windy winter weather as he stays dry underneath. Rug off again first thing this morning and he was nice and dry so I think for him it was the right call last night.

Cute little fella out with his mum yesterday. It'll be interesting in a few months, as they haven't been drifting this year, due to covid. There'll be a lot more ponies on the forest than usual.Screenshot_20200828-174530_Gallery.jpg

Mine was a little shivery, barely noticeable. Go and eat grass you are fine.
Thanks for the photo. I am nosing at your mats. It allows grass through but supports against slippery mud. I am thinking my entrance could do with a path of these.

I sometimes think this time of year is harder for them as it can go from being reasonably warm to being disgusting in a very short space of time and none of them really have an established winter coat yet!

I've gone from a t-shirt in the house to a onesie, a hot water bottle and a fur blanket the last few nights but in winter, I mainlybmanage fine in a jumper and maybe a blanket when watching TV.

There are foals out in this weather without rugs and the parents are teaching them to seek shelter and turn your little fluffy bums.
The issue I think is when there isn't any shelter or the horse hasnt been taught to seek it.

I hadn't really thought about it but I've basically got enough to do a 12ftx12ft area. So when I get the shelter (all being well) I could potentially have an area 24 X 12ft for dry standing, presuming the shelter keeps the ground beneath it dry ish, that may be wishful thinking

I wasn't planning on buying that many, but a place to stand while i tack up might be useful.
If you placed up against the trees you would then have three sides giving you three sides of protection all year round.
