Heatwaves, and the next one

I’ve just got back from a holiday to Scotland, road tripping in mums camper, Suffolk to Fort William, across to Skye, Harris and Lewis, back to Ullapool, Loch Ness and back to Fort William and home, I was looking forward to the cool 14c and damp weather forecast, which we had for 2 days out of 10, then it was up to 20c and 27c in Fort William when we left on Tuesday, what’s that all about?!? 🤣 had a fabulous time though.

Thought I hadn't seen many posts from you. Now I know why. It's something I'm considering doing. There's so much of this country I haven't seen. So many nice scenic places. Haven't a clue where to start with road tripping. But if I sell up I'm planning on travelling for a year round the country so it gives me time to find somewhere to settle down.

Yes I wondered where you were! Yaye sounds like a good holiday and a variety of places visited. We've even had sunshine on Orkney lately lol

We've had this heatwave for ten days now. I think we are supposed to go back to normal summer temp tomorrow. The ferry has been cancelled which people are moaning about, but they are not the ones or in the heat of the sun all day with no respite as the cabin is awful and the plastic seats can't be sat on either!!

Oh dear we are forecast more 30°s next week. Not looking forward to that.

Last year was a dry spring. When the kids broke up for summer we started getting rain and everything caught up. This year spring was ok but the summer seems to be dry. I'm sure everything will catch up again. But we have no rain showing for at least another fortnight.

Raining here now. Cold, windy, could be October / Nov - or April or May. Lol. There's only one season up here, I live in eternal hope that the weather might improve! I know it could be worse, I'm glad it isn't too hot. But this gloom and wind - its getting me down now.

I've seen a tiny bit in my forecast too, but not a high probability so I daresay it will come to nothing.

Well it was gale force for a little while here this morning, no heatwave that's for sure lol
The sun keeps popping out which is nice but its too soon to have to tie everything down - winter is usually my time for securing buckets in a morning - else they start eating them and then the buckets fly off.
Oh dear. Come back calm.

We havent been very windy but i just saw that half next doors Oak Tree is on the floor this morning. Hope none of my sheep were underneath. Our oak died several years ago and we took it down for safety. The neighbours was still green so I can only think lack of rain might have played a part. I noticed another large tree had come down a few weeks ago on the hill.

Hope none of your sheep are injured by it. Poor old tree though.

It's come over windy, black clouds and we've just had the lightest of rain shower I have ever seen.
It smells wonderful, but it needs to do slightly more than just drip.

I’ve given up hope of rain now until autumn. I picked up 40 bales of barley straw last night and 20 bales of hay this morning and will pick up hay every couple of weeks now as there’s no grass left.

Hay guy said all his yields are way, way down, at least I have the ability to travel out of area to get hay when locals run out (which they will before winter at this rate), people who can’t are going to be up the creek without a paddle. At least it’s a more localised problem this year.

We had a little bit of rain. Enough to see it in the garden chair. I pulled up ragwort today and it's looking thin, which is good for me.

I have lost count how. But we are getting another for three days. Think Amber alert. 28,30,33

Least we have sunshine. But its windy as hell and its definitely not a wear-a-blouse to the field day at all. I'd ironed thin items so I was jolly well wearing them. But it lasted five minutes until I slunk back indoors for my jumper. Oh well.
