Oh wow. We're putting up a barn next spring and my dad wants to make the stalls 20 x 12, and the tallest horse we have is a 17 hh TWH. Yes, 10 x 10 is WAY small!
don't worry. i'm not putting him in it, but thats the option at the yard i want to move to and i didn't think it would be, but just wanted to check that i hadn't got my sizes mixed up.
having seen it done, i'd say no! that horse had trouble turning around in there mind you, i found that the boxes in most yards are a tad small in general!
i put my 15.2 in 10x12 box because he likes to get a good trot round his box and so the 12x14s didnt work him. this solved his boxwalking problem but he couldnt roll or lie down properly so i moved yards to a 12x12 - hapy medium
Sorry
I nearly spat my coffee out when I saw this post.
Horse might fit if you chop legs off.
On a serious note- if someone is trying to fob you off, saying that 10 x 10 is big enough- tell them to get lost !!!
I had Jim in a 13'x10' for a few weeks as it was the only way to get him out of a yard where we were both very unhappy. He's only 16.2 (ish) although a lot chunkier than J but that was too small for him - he had to almost do 3 point turns to move round!
We had an 18hh shire crammed into a 11' x 11' stable last winter, poor 'pony' occasionally nutted the ceiling beams if he got too enthusiastic about tugging haylage out of the net upwards Wasn't ideal so even smaller than that would be really Not Good!
10x10 really isn't that small. I had Stormy, who was 17.2hh in one for 4 years, and he could quite comfortably lie down-after all, they are only in the stall for about 7 hours of the day (or at least at my place). Now, if you have the CHOICE, bigger is always better, and I'm sure he'd be more comfortable in a 12x12 stall, especially as he is so big.
