2022 Hacking and Riding

But I felt rotten. It was supposed to be a nice ride for J and Austin, not an assault course!

Better luck next time I suppose.
I am sorry Jane because I today had a perfect hack in perfect weather. I didnt ride last week as I was ill and yesterday was the funeral of a neighbour we knew well, so I have been down hearted, puttig on weight and creaking at the hinges.
Today I put on all my heavy winter clothes and boots and then found that Ella has a new saddle and leather girth so I didnt cover myself with glory either mounting or dismounting. but I do feel 100 times better for the exercise. We did a great deal of your Riding Instructor Trot as the YM was keen to get home.

I'm envious of all your rides. Good or bad. (Well maybe not so much the bad!). I am teaching Zi to take a bow. It's fun. He loves treats and will do almost anything to oblige for one. It's like playing with a large, furry ginger bear at the moment. I do love him😍

Got mine out for a lunge. The water is freezing cold as it came over my boot at one point!
I may change to my Ariat wellies that haven't seen daylight for over a year if she's going to start paddling 😂

I get on with lunging at the spot we've used all summer. It took a few circles to realise that the reason she's not happy and trying to turn in, us to avoid the biting Easterly wind!
So we relocate to another spot, same exposed area, but no wind. 🤔

I got rather excited with the ditch that hasn't got water in it. We could use that to do some jumpies.
I debated with standing on the bridge and sending her round, but thankfully I didn't follow up that thought.
There is a saying that you can't educate stupid, I might have just tried this theory out. Let's just say it was fun and she had the option to step through it, or hop and I had the same option. 😁

An on time update!

Thursday and Friday was hacks with S. 500 miles now this year :) I have a lot less brakes with the new bit!
Saturday was grooming for YO at a SJ competition

Sunday was an SJ clinic - I was on my own so was working hard. Harvey was very enthusiastic and my arms were aching at the end :)

Not ridden due to ulcers. We now have a week till next comp. I put his saddle on today to see how he felt. He initially wondered if he didn’t like it. Was distracted by a polo and decided he was quite happy. Possibly ride tomorrow if the road is not frozen enough to get into the field.

Been out three times this week, all good, if a bit slow. Freezing this morning, but went anyway, my fingers started to hurt with the cold, so it was a short one. Didn't groom Hogan's mane as it was all frosty and looked wonderful.

That's a phone moment.
I am using a rubbish mane and tail thing, may as well spray her with water.
I don't ride if too cold. I have done 3 degrees before now and that was okay.

Don't think I'll go out tomorrow - temps forecast as -3. Both horses slipped on the grass track up from the field, and the grounds rock hard. Wouldn't fancy my chances if Hogan had one of his hissy fits.
