It never gets it right! It has us cantering hk te Road through the village and also along along stoney tracks. It can't cope with his swagger
Oh he is - but he's like the little girl with the curl - when he's good, he's very very good, but when he's bad he's horrid!Could you clone him and send to me please? He looks such a good sort.
That is just what we used to say about Storm! When she was ridden - when she was good she was fabulous but when she was bad she was really bad
Woo hoo rode for the first time since the end of October.
Tried 2 different slip chin bitless nosebands to see if they ride similar to the scott purdum bitless halter that I ride in all.the time.
Thats also a slip chin.
The weather was threatening so I only tried the 2 and not the sidepull I altered.
They were both great he was very responsive but the one with the rope one the buckle was a bit closer to his eye
But didn't seem to shift.
It may be that headstall needs a a little cheek string.
The other one was fine.
I will switch the nosebands to see if there is a difference.
He was a super boy.
The goats were in a tizzy MOMS ON SONNY...

I found slip chin noseband options to be able to use the pretty tack.
Hes very responsive with that bitless halter.
But its fun to dress him.
Im trying this bridle tomorrow.

Robin was not impressed when at tea and bed time he was made to go for a ride!! Much yawning and plain just ignoring me. Set off and got "best I can do is an amble along the lane".
Heading back up the road we did some "be a nice boy and let me on from a gate" training. For some reason he has found this impossible and gets very upset when I have tried in the past. He is fine u till the point where I climb up the gate. Took advantage of his sleepy mood and broke it down into tiny bits. At the gate closest the yard so not an issue of I couldn't get back on. He worked it out quickly. The addition of polo's helped. He moved away twice and then it clicked. Got on and off 4 times then headed home. Such a good boy.

Omg the wind was bad then got lots worse.
It got a little scary when my hood was flapping really hard and the w exercise ball was jumping around like it was possessed.
Both worked really well.
He was extremely light and responsive.
We played with the exercise ball before it got really bad out.

Friday was a solo hack around with a few trots and a short canter
Saturday was a SJ clinic. Both of my normal companions had to drop out with recuperating horses so I had a new lady to ride with (who was very nice). Harvey was feeling willing but a bit lackluster (He's changing coat and I think its that) so we stayed around the 100cm mark. The course was fun with a jump followed by a curving line into a 1 stride double that I really struggled with. I had 5 supporters from the yard which was very nice.

We went out today as nanny to my livery mate Alice's mare Abby, who is 10 but was only started under saddle this year. She is 89% Arab and really quite hot. We went up the "blocked" bridlepath and negotiated the half-fallen tree and the red-and-white danger tape. We went through the big competition yard on the hill, past a pen full of Dobermanns and a leaf blower as well as a field of youngsters. We went around the Heath and back onto the lane, where we did a test split to make sure that Abby would go off on her own (she would). Abby spent quite a lot of time with her nose on Sid's bum, which seems to allow her to relax.
On the lane we met the dustcart, a supplementary dustcart full of loose black bin liners which smelt, an enormous builder's yard lorry and some alpacas. Abby was very good though she jumped a few times. Sid was as cool as a cucumber. If we had been on our own he would have objected to some of those things, but Uncle Sid was brave for Abby.
We have agreed to do the sponsored ride together on Good Friday, yippee! We think we'll go at the end of the day on the basis that there will be fewer speed demons galloping past us.

Fence 5 doesn't appeal to me at all.
Not from the aspect of scariness..
But ugh it reminds me of the comic book pop up crap in the old batman tv show.

Hail showers yesterday so went in the school. It was cold and slightly windy and as yo would put it Robin was being "frisky". Got to top of arena and exploded sideways landing 3m away (being in the school I could see the hoof prints!) because there was a green supplement tub lid on the other side of the fence. Hauled him up and put him back on the track. Good boy now walk on. Another leap to the side. Hauled him up again and made him stand. Of course standing is fine cos he isn't actually scared. Go to walk away again and he dashes off. So he got yelled at and put back on the track. Walked off again with no issues as he has had his final warning.
Do our usual walk warm up while sat on ticking bomb. It started to hail and he declared he couldn't possibly cope as they were touching his nose. Que more drama. Hail comes on properly so we go in. Hail goes off so I put an exercise sheet on, he is visibly relieved by this. Get into school again and suddenly is well in Robin world and he worked beautifully!!

First Sidiversary ride started in snow, but cleared up soon to sun and an icy wind. Sid and Smarty the big eventer were both on a total go slow, though we had a couple of nice trots and one trot for Smarty that was a canter for Sid (Smarty is 17hh). Sid was very good, though, and gave Smarty a lead past all the piles of horse-eating logs when he was preparing for a meltdown. I can't believe that horse is a TREC champion, he is a big girl's blouse when he is out with us!

Just rode a little and tried a side pull I had that I just converted adding the slop chon to it.
I couldn't finalize the knot and cutting and burning rope ends yet until I was sure the length was fine.
I can still use the original side pull rings if I want to....but he is soooo. much lighter in the slip chin arrangement.
