2022 Hacking and Riding

Woo hoo I just got in from riding....
IN THE EVENING.... I NEVER RIDE IN THE EVENING
It was great so quiet and peaceful..I watched the sunset from SONNY BACK

2 nosebands I ordered arrived today and I wanted to try them.

One has knots one doesn't.
He was super light in both.

The orange one I ordered for that bridle
The other one is a patriotic flag pattern .
It didn't really go w that other bridle.
It needs something leaning red.

We played with the ball

I'm SOOOOOO THRILLED I didn't him and haw. Should I shouldn't I. Yes no ...

I just said to myself it's nice out and I REALLY want to try those nosebands.

I'm soooo not an evening person being up so damn early..not by choice..I always have been.

I felt rejuvenated when I came in.

I really need to do that more.

I always ride in the afternoon and I feel all knocked out of line of earlier. I think ot seems from I like getting mucked out and jobs done first and leaving stable ready to be left in after riding.

Woo hoo, me too. I went to the yard prepared to tell them I was giving up riding - too old too stiff and too tired. But the opposite happened and it was heaven.
They sent me out all on my own, on a granny ride wandering with Ella and to my favourite tree viewpoint from where I can survey the Parkland in the manner of Tolstoy. Tolstoy has always been my role model for riding in old age but OH has just pointed out that I am now older than Tolstoy was when he died.
The effect on Ella was beautiful too. She has seemed stiff and quite strong and needing a hefty kick since my fall in January, but today she gradually softened and I could think her into trot and she reminded me of how Maisie (old favourite ) was- as if I had been riding Ella this way for years and got to the point where we are quite at home with each other.

I cancelled my lesson. I thought taking him in the school was the last thing he needs right now. I'm glad I did, it is peeing down now. I said I would still pay for lesson but instructor said no. She will still come and teach s tho as it is the first be of the season on Sunday and she is hard core!!

A quite weekend for me. I hacked on Friday and Saturday first with S and then with A. On Sunday we played in the school - L had set up a jumping exercise so Harvey and I had a play. It was basically a 20m circle of small (45cm) jumps but the centre one was a bit close so it was a tighter turn. Harvey has the turning circle of a cruise liners so we had to work hard

FINALLY! All moved in, it wasn't raining and after 2 WEEKS (!) I took Hogan out. It was however blowing a gale, but I had to remind myself that the wind really doesn't bother Hogan. We didn't do anything special - just pootled, but it was lovely. Considering he'd had 2 weeks off, there were gale force winds and there was a forest pony yelling for her friends frantically, he was a gent. Roll on spring!Screenshot_20220407-102247_Gallery.jpgScreenshot_20220407-102303_Gallery.jpg

Just been out for a walk and took an old Dutch kite with us which we flew - but so blustery it kept diving to the ground. I was glad not to be riding.

Can't believe how much I'm enjoying getting out riding again - felt much longer than 2 weeks since I last went. Absolutely glorious morning, but so cold. There was a heavy frost for this time of year, clear to see in pic below, when I went to get him in. There was a show in the big yard across the lane, and credit to Hogan, lots of lorries and shouty horses didn't wind him up at all. We had a nice relaxed ride (not as much of a meander as our last one!) I caught sight of our shadow and couldn't resist a pic of the HUGE horse with a HUGE tummy and the teeny tiny rider.Screenshot_20220409-213812_Gallery.jpgScreenshot_20220409-213503_Gallery.jpgScreenshot_20220409-213429_Gallery.jpg

Lovely hack on my own this morning. I had Super Chilled Sid today instead of Turbo Sid as in my jumping lesson! We stopped to let a little little child, just about able to walk, speak to him and pat his nose, and he was a complete gent as always. Popped a little log and he was fine with a short canter afterwards. The canter was slow and smooth, so smooth I actually had to count the hoofbeats to be sure we were cantering! Just a poppet.

Very warm this morning, only my 2nd ride without a jacket. Hogan was a bit of a pain to start (so slow!) but woke up after a frustrating 15 minutes or so. We got lots of trotting in, after a reluctant start, which was lucky, as the world and his wife were out this morning. Met OH and he took a pic - terrible - my hands are up, my shoulders are up and my stirrups not level! My stirrups always are unlevel until we've had a trot, then they settle evenly. Doesn't matter what I do, it's the same every ride. They're the same length, believe it or not!Screenshot_20220413-102257_WhatsApp.jpg

Another lazy weekend riding wise, but not so much horsey wise.

YO has entered the young horse class at the Wales and West show so we had a yard outing to support her. The downside was that her time was 8:44 so we had to leave the yard at 6:30. It was a fun morning with 6 of us going and the early start got us back in time to ride. I went hacking with K in the afternoon as she hasn't learned the hacking yet. We discovered that the surface on our local short was the best I have ever known it - you can normally only canter 50m before getting to a boggy or rutted patch but we were able to canter for ages.

Saturday was another early start (for me who normally gets up at 8!). I was grooming for L who was in the second round of British Novice SJ. We had to leave at 8:30 as it was a 90 minute drive. We had a nice time although L was unlucky to have a pole down in the first round. I hacked on my own in the afternoon, and as the bridleway was good for cantering Harvey and I had to go and play.

Sunday was a lie in!! I hacked with L and (guess what) we went and took advantage of the good surface for a canter)

Saturday's venue (Tushingham) - waiting to walk the course.
