2023 Hacking and Riding

Well i did a longer in hand walk with both today. We all went up across the top of the hill and back down. We havent been up there for nearly a year. Course Chunky put in a few objections going up the hill, not being arsy just one very unfit arthritic old man. Coming back down i just let him go and he pottled back down the step rocky track. Such a good boy.
Omg you really wouldnt think billy is chronic lame. I had serious trouble leading him. He dragged me and chunky up that hill. It was slippy so i had to watch he didnt stand on my feet as i was sliding around, and coming back down flippin heck my feet on the stones were very much in danger of getting crushed. I swear if id have let him go hed of galloped down the rocky track home.
My arms are sure going to ache tomorrow. I am seriously considering putting his tack back on if he keeps being this forward. I think im safer on board than being on the ground. Maybe i should consider bridling him to walk him out. Maybe id have more control. A headcollar just isnt cutting it right now.
You could try longreining the forward going one, or last or individually.
I don't think I would want to be leading two unless both the two walked at the same pace and behaved. I can guarantee mine would be the one wanting to eat and walk behind the other who would be quicker.

This could be long.

I have earache again.🤦‍♀️
I am not looking for the poor you, I am looking for "have you not learnt to dress yourself properly yet nf!"
I have a buff from the recommendations members gave me the last time I had earache, however it will work better if it's on, not in my pocket. I put it on today and a brain cell rolled out, clearly being here for three winters has not given me any form of common sense!!
So now I am a little icky, I have decided to carry on with Just lead January, it has a ring to it and as I havent ridden yet this year, we may as well start in February 😂

Sort yourself out nf. 😂

I would be wanting to know the cause of the ear ache other than wind. Are you sure you don't have some kind of infection that has come back? Maybe a trip or call to the gp? To be sure? Do you always get ear ache in windy weather? Or is it the extremeness of the wind? Ie, the low temperature?
Sorry for all the questions but I like to know the why before applying more layers!
Are you needing pain killers for the ear ache? Or is it okay once you get home into the warmth of the house?

-3° today, and stupid me got all ready, got Hogan all ready and gung ho off we go. I KNEW it was frosty, I KNEW it would be hard underfoot, and possibly slippy, but was so desperate to get out after all the rain. We took it very slow, and in the end it was a very short, and very enjoyable little pootle. I thought the track to the forest would be OK, but it was patchy, with frozen puddles, and slippy sides. He scared himself stepping on a frozen puddle, and it cracking - cue bums rush. All in all, he was a good lad and deserved his hay.Screenshot_20230117_202229_Gallery.jpg

Took a cold and flu thing, wrapped myself up in three layers and finally got warm with the sherpa fleece. Five hours later I could then take layers off. I feel lots better now. Having a Horlicks, 😂 yes I do like that, always have.
It's the wind if I fail to protect my neck and ears, but also the atmospheric pressure.

I took Harvey in the school on Thursday for some polework, but it was soon apparent he wasn't quite right so I stopped. YO had a look and his pelvis was a bit wonky - he's had this a couple of times before so I wasn't worried.

After a day off on Friday we had a gentle hack on Saturday where he felt mostly right, and again on Sunday when he felt ok. As a precaution the osteopath had a look at him on Monday. He only did some minor tweaks and cleared him to jump next weekend.

Harvey thought we should have a selfie as we didn't have any other pics to post

I really enjoy your updates.

I did squeak at him a few times to not go to fast “mum if I went any slower I would be standing still” and also don’t spook “I would never…”

Although it stayed cold, the ice went from our lane and I thought, "I will only be walking anyway, let's go out in the bareback pad."

So we did:

I led him a little way up the road to the gully where I can just step on board, and we teetered off. He was a bit uncertain to begin with both about the footing, even on our sandy tracks, and about my being bareback - he doesn't seem to think that I am secure and keeps putting an ear back to ask if I am OK.

But later on we both got into the swing and had a lovely walk for an hour and 20 mins or so. It was gorgeously sunny and very nippy. His ears went forward and stayed there.

I wanted to show how nice and low his head position is when he is chilled, but I couldn't seem to get the angle:

As we went home down a fairly steep hill I was gobsmacked by how much movement there is in his back and bum as we descend. He always hurries on this particular path, and he thought a trot was in order. I disagreed. He was good, in the end.

We had a lovely time. Hop over to his diary to see what happens when we get home.

Today
Me to Robin “be careful. There is ice to the right. Keep left”
Robin to me “be careful. There are monsters to the left. Keep right”
Me to Robin “seriously. Keep left!”
Robin to me “seriously. Keep right!”
*teeter down the middle with us looking in different directions thankful neither the ice or the monsters (some flattened over tall leaves) got us*

Repeat the opposite way round on the way back…..

First ride since Christmas Day.
I think the months break has done us both good.
I really enjoyed our little outing.
It was slightly under water in places and she did look round a few times which I took to mean "it's flooded you idiot, did you bring a boat! "
I knew the path would fork and we could head back that way.

Anyway random question, she loves the grass that grows in the water. She must know to hold her breath to stick her face right in. I will look up the grasses, I know the area mentions different types.

I might enter the first photo in the competitions we do.
I like it.

@newforest she will always win the prize for the prettiest mane.

We got out today. It was 3 degrees so ground still hard but Sid was happier with the footing than when it was frosty, so we had a couple of nice strong canters when he felt comfortable. I ask, and if he doesn't want to go, that's fine. He knows he can choose.

Today we also introduced 5 puppies (2 Labs, 2 whippets and a Romanian rescue) to a horse. The whippets were all bonkers and rushed around him barking but he didn't even flick an ear. He really seems to like dogs, he always wants to say hello and sniff noses.

Why will your weight be out of control? If you are not well, if anything like me then I eat less. If I do less, I also eat less
