How mych do you pay for natural balance shoes just on the fronts, and not wanting to sound thick but what do they do?

My farrier put natural balance shoes on Cosmel all round last time she was shod.....there was no different at all in price and the difference...erm he did tell me....:o Well to look at they are flatter at the front, no toe clips on the front shoes.

sorry cant be more help. she has had no problems with them 'touch wood'

Gx

I have a bit of a thing against farriers shoeing all horse with natural balance shoes.

Not all horses require their breakover point to be altered yet there seem to be many farriers out there that will only shoe with NB's

I had NBs put on my gelding as he tripped a lot. They are a squarer shape at the front and bring the breakover point back so the hoof goes over the toe earlier than with normal shoes if that makes sense. He had low heel, long toe feet and there was bruising around the toe when the farrier took his normal shoes off. He is much better now - never trips and his feet look a much better shape.

They only cost £5 extra - he does my other horse in normal shoes. Some farriers specialise in NB but some will do both.

oh brilliant, what it is, is that my new arrival who came yesterday :D has NB on fronts. obv they were put there for a reason so dont want to just go changing everything. i pay £60 for full set of normal shoes, will 2 be £30 then??

oh yes forgot that, makes sense..im a bit slow in general! thank you, better get him out riding to make the most of shoes hehe, no all in good time

yann i always learn a lot from your posts, i value what you say and love your approach.

I pay £60 for a full set of natural balance shoes. I have a vague idea of what they do but wouldn't be able to tell you! I have tried to educate myself about shoeing but really don't understand! :o

But Forest goes so much better in them. He used to have to wear over reach boots all the time, sometimes in the field. Now he wears them for fast hacks and jumping. So from what I can tell they have really helped his movement. :)

£78 for Lucy's
But after all the trouble & Xrays we've had I wouldn't want another farrier to touch her, so the high price is a choice ;)_!

My neddy has had NB shoes for ages now. They're £65 a set and he is shod anywhere between 6 and 8 weeks depending on wear and tear and hoof growth.

NB shoes are regular shoes. The metal is slightly different to other shoes which enables my farrier to bang them about a bit to fit my neddies hoof wall shape. He isnt changing the natural break over point, he places the shoe to my horses foot shape.

When he was first shod in these shoes (after we'd taken off the huge dinner plate, toe clipped monstrocity) he placed them a bit further back to support his heels, gradually using smaller shoes until the hoof wall was strong and the correct shape and size. It took around 2 years to get his feet right.

I have heard of Cyteks, many of the horses i know were shod with them up until 2/3 years ago. Cytek made the shoes heavier and changed their shape and they seemed to loose their popularity with horses, their owners and farriers alike.

My farrier does occasionally shoe a horse with rear clips but usually to help the hoof wall stay intact on a foot that has been badly shod previously.

I had a horse on livery with a terrible over reach problem and was always cutting his front heels but with his first NB shoeing he was soooo much better.

Hope this helps.

Just had my first farrier attendance for Roo yesterday in Shropshire (we moved the day after he was last done in Wilts by my old one) - he's been bare on the backs over winter but I've just had him re-shod as they have splatted, unfortunately and are completely flat :(. My new yard has a lot of stoney tracks so I weighed up the pro's and con's of getting hoofie boots and decided that he will be more comfortable 100% of the time back with shoes. Anyway, they have put NB shoes on his backs (terrible TB feet  - underrun heels and long toes too, but a works in progress since I first got him)

Here's his back foot in the squarer-toed NB shoe:

And his front in the normal shoe:

I'm just showing these pics as Xandoz asked what they looked like, this is not for critique, ta.....

Oh, I paid £60, no extra for the NB's. :)
