We have been away with the horses for a few days and on the day we left Wales to come home I noticed Indie wasn't opening his eye properly and it was watering - looked like he was crying!

Next day was still same but i also noticed there was also a slightly white film so bathed it and booked vet for next day - turns out he has an abscess under the third eyelid!!

I have some cream to put in twice daily and vet said should be fine in 2-3 weeks.

Has anyone else had to deal with an eye abscess? I've never had to deal with one before just hoping the cream works and heals it well.

One of my horses had an abscess in her eye earlier this year. It was a nightmare as she's a 16.2hh ex-racer who isn't the best to handle and also had a week old foal at foot. She had to have the eye drops every 3 hours in the beginning, she would kick and rear and there was no way to get them in. In the end we had to twitch her to do the eye drops becuase it was either that or loose her eye. The abscess (you could actually see a white circle on her eye) cleared up in a couple of weeks. The cloudyness in her eye took months to go but the vet said that was normal. It's completely healed now and she's just about getting over her issues of being subjected to all the eye cream and twitching.

Forgot to say good luck!

Ah your poor girl bless her! The vet actually said we are lucky as it is protected by the third eyelid, although i don't consider the position of any abscess lucky!!

I've had to put cream in again on my own and bless him hes not keen but is being so good just hope it works and heals soon.
