What would you think of feeding allen and page fast fibre and 'L' to a 16.1hh tb x who is in light/mediam work and gets fizzy very easy??

Just wondering your thoughts
thanks

I fed Forest on fast fibre for a while in the winter. He is easily fizzed up by most feeds, but was completely find on this and didn't get excitable at all. :)

Thanks ginny is easily fizzed up even on thing like hi fi lite :o do you know if it contains many calories as dont really need her to put on any more weight as she is at a perfect weight at the moment :D

Unless she's sensitive to the ingredients it shouldn't fizz her up - DE is only 8MJ/kg & starch is 5.0% (low). Personally I doubt it will be enough to keep condition on her if she's in medium work unless she's a very good doer so you'll probably need to add something else.

Do you know what it is that fizzes her up? What's she normally fed? It may be worth cutting everything out then slowly adding things back to see if you can spot the culprits. Sometimes horses like this are easier to feed straights plus a good vit & min supplement or balancer, that way at least you know what they're getting. Failing that start carefully reading the ingrediants label on feed sacks because similar sounding feeds can have quite different ingredients.

My metabolic pony gets Fast Fibre. It has half the amount of sugar as Hi Fi Lite which I thought was almost impossible. She loves it and its good for hiding her supplements in!

Thanks guys

Am deffinately going to start feeding ginny fast fibre but am unsure of which of the following to give her with it:
L mix
Quiet mix
Ride and relax
herbal quiet mix

Does anyone have any feedback on these feeds:confused:

When I looked at the Allen and Page website, I was surprised how much starch is in some of their mixes;

Ride and Relax 15% not too bad
Herbal Quiet mix 28%!
Quiet mix 30%!
But the L mix is only 1.75%
So if your horse is fizzy I would stick to the low starch ones

I used to feed my shetland L mix years ago; its a bit like rabbit food :)
I've just bought a couple of bags of Fast Fibre, the're on offer until end of the year £7.10 for a 20k bag, bargain!

For low starch & DE try the L Mix. If, however, you think she may be sensitive to alfalfa, or if she needs a bit more energy either for her work or weight then I'd try the Ride & Relax.

Why not give Allen & Page a call & have a chat about her needs?
