Monkey is starting to feel beautifully reliable (**frantically touches wood), the big trip in May with L&C really helped him grow up just as I had hoped it would, and I'm looking forward to our next one in early September with T. Tomorrow I'm taking Monkey to L&C's yard to ride (our first trip out alone in the trailer to ride somewhere) 😬 Then the 3rd week in august I have a week booked off, and L&C have kept it free and we plan to take the horses out somewhere new every other day - so lots of travelling and new places practice. But I have just seen that a local hunt has the last of their novice outings (walk and trot, max of 10 riders, no hounds) for the year on 11 August, which is a bit of a first step to hound exercising which I would really like to do this winter, and I really want to go, but I don't want to blow his brains before all the other stuff I have planned, am I nuts? Perhaps I should just organise a couple of local rides with 10 people (easily done, I used to do them monthly for up to 20 people) to prepare?

I am sure your local hunt will offer a couple of gentle sessions in the run up to the season, so I would stick with a large group outing close to home so he doesn't have to cope with 10 new horses AND all new surroundings. As you say, you want to keep up the good work!

This is the last of the novice sessions, after that they get into hound exercise. I wish they had another mid September, that would be a no brainer for me.

If it feels right then go for it, if you have doubts then don't. I generally find if it feels right then it is. Do you have to book in advance or is it turn up on the day? If the latter then I really would play it by ear.

Its a book in advance thing so they can limit the numbers, it may even be sold out already I haven't asked yet. I don't know if it feels right, or if I just want to do it lol
