So I'd just finished my weekly lesson with Appley. Back on the yard, I got chatting to another lady who was about to have a lesson, too. Hadn't met her before. She asked why I had lessons if I 'could already ride', so I explained that I'm not very good/wanted to get into dressage a bit more/etc. and that I quite enjoyed 'having a go' at a whole host of 'disciplines' with my horse.

'Ah so you have your own horses then?' she replied, 'where is it?'

... whilst watching me sponge off my sweaty steed.

'Uh, this one!' I replies pointing at 12hh of fit and muscly Appley-poneh :giggle:

Lady couldn't believe I did all these things with such a small equine.

Told her to Google 'Exmoor Pony' when she got home :p

My mum makes me laugh. She says 'Lessons? Why do you need lessons when I spent all that money on you for riding lessons when you where a child?'

There is no hope lol.

Bless her, she really does not know Appley the wonder pony at all.

I still get it all the time about lessons. So most of the time now I refer to them as training sessions. x

My parents are also baffled as to why I want lessons. They seem to think that I bought a horse so I didn't have to pay for lessons anymore!

Must admit years ago when I first had lessons as an adult I was very in awe of a fantastic rider on the yard and could not for the life of me work out why she was still having lessons!!!!! She was amazing to watch and I remember being totally puzzled as to why she had her own trainer who came once a week!!

Oh you don't get that attitude much over here - people can barely put their feet in the stirrups without their instructor there to help :giggle: It's actually quite trendy to have a "coach", if you don't have one people wonder how you manage!

Uhhhhh i know how you feel in regards to pony size :redcarded:

I always get that 'look' from people, I know exactly what they are thinking 'Oh look at her on that little pony, they shouldn't be here doing this blah blah'

I wish people were more open minded to adults riding ponies, it really does irritate me that people think adults must ride horses :poop:

Also non horsey people are horrified when I say I own/ride ponies....the best comment I got from a work college the other week when I told them about my pones...

'What you can actually ride ponies?? I thought you could only ride and jump horses, can you actually do much with a pony?'

:redcarded: I was highly un-impressed!!

Vicki-the solution to most comments is to ask the person to show you how they would achieve what your aiming for. I found that stops it when they won't get their hat and actually get on your horse, they next bit is they don't know what it actually is that your doing!

LOL silly woman hasnt seen Appley in action :giggle:

I get that too...as in "why do you have lessons if you can ride?" and I just say even the professionals and athletes etc have training and with horses you learn something new everyday.

They always ask me can they have a go on my horses or can their daughter etc who used to ride or has ridden a few times lol maybe i should let them

I like the few inches between friends comeback very good!tbh I get in on a 14.2 Welsh d as everyone has big horses but I just say well I don't have as far to fall!

I always get asked if they can ride my horses.

How do you tell someone they are to big for a 16.2 TB.

How to do you tell someone they are too big for my 16.1hh shire x? He is built like a tank, but it doesn't mean that he can carry anyone. Someone keeps asking to sit on him, but they must be 18 stone plus and it's just too heavy for him.
